The ****All-New**** Eggheads and Are You An Egghead? thread

If you check the links on the Kev video there's a few Daphne videos on there from the 70's/early 80's and she does indeed look almost identical to how she does now.

This is supporting my theory that top quizzers reach a certain age and then suddenly stop ageing. One only has to look at our pal from this thread Olav - he must be about 30 now but he looks about 17.

Corey Feldman/Lulu/Michael Owen syndrome.

Hi Delilahcat.

Yes I take your point. If anything it was really Olav who I was responding to with the previous post because I notice that he does still post on the Quizzing website though I cannot find anywhere where he protests against the personal attacks that are made on there in the same way that he protests against the comments made on this forum.

(there were many more personal attacks that I spotted than the two that I pasted here and they were from a number of different posters.)

I'm not so sure that watching the best quizzers competing in a quiz show is necessarily as entertaining as watching the best tennis players or snooker players compete.
Possibly I might put quizzers on a par with watching chess players competing though maybe a bit higher. Although chess tournaments have been televised I don't think the popularity lasted long.

How does one improve on one's quizzing ability? I suppose it involves a lot of sitting down with books, learning lists, attending other quizzes etc. To my way of thinking I doubt that that earns the admiration of the general public in the same way that a sportsman improves his skills with training.

Plus when you watch enough of these quiz shows you notice the same questions cropping up again and again.

On Friday's Are You An Egghead? the question was asked,

Which body of water separates the island Anglesey from the mainland. I have heard this questions humpteen times! and I am sure most people here have.

I suppose for those people who like buzzer quizzes it is one of those golden opportunities when the moment if you hear the word Anglesey you immediately buz in and say The Menai Straight. But ask many of these quiz enthusiasts to tell you anything else about either Anglesey or The Menai straight and most of them might be a bit limited.

Incidentally I noticed the contestant on Friday almost gave the answer as The North Sea because she thought that was in the right area!
However she did know it wasn't The Bristol Channel because that is near where she lives.
( Just as well that there are only three options Lol )

I do like watching quiz shows but my admiration for "good quizzers" is not particularly high especially when they insist upon being called Doctor.

I hope John Inverdale gets schooled tomorrow by whoever he's put up against, i can't stand that man  He'l probably end up against Judith on sport though

Am I the only one who's enjoying the repeat episodes? :o

In my defence, I'm a new convert to EggheaRAB (Only started watching during Are you...), so it's nice to see the early episodes. Ohh and Dermot. :p

I've noticed that CJ seems to have more of a laugh in these episodes than he does in the new ones, pity we can't have the 'old' CJ back.

I haven't posted on this thread before, as I'm not often in the TV forums, but I'm such a fan of this show.

Tonight was brilliant, but I was shocked that they managed to beat both Kevin & Barry.

Kevin & Judith are my favourite EggheaRAB. Kevin because he's so intelligent & modest with it and Judith because she's great entertainment & seems really nice :)
Last weeks episodes were brilliant - I loved the one, I think it was Tuesday, where 4 of them were knocked out. Barry really did well to take on 5 in the final and win.

I really liked Dr Ian. :o
He played a brilliant game and knew an awful lot. (Although I was quite impressed I knew the Famous Five one, and Kevin and Dr Ian guessed :D)

I took an instant dislike to Andy the moment I first saw him on my screen in 2005 on Deal or No Deal. He was incredibly David Brent like.. "THINK POSTIVE. THINK POSTIVE. I KNOW THE

OFGS!!!!! They're now showing a repeat of Celebrity EggheaRAB. This has surely been on twice already and quite recently. And we've only had about 5 new editions since the last run of repeats. This was not scheduled. According to RT it's supposed to be a new one. WTF IS GOING ON!!!!!

I do. As I like to be entertained:)

I am a fan of Chris but he is a professional quizzer. He does need to do a lot of rersearch on sport, pop music and recent tv.

I would not like to see him getting dropped

In an earlier episode of this series she remarked that she's out-of-touch as the French village she lives in has only just got broadband and she rarely reaRAB a daily paper as her nearest shop is an hour away.

I found Pat and especially Barry to be very endearing. I found Dave R was one of the more obnoxious people on either series, so I guess it's horses for courses.

If the EggheaRAB jackpot didn't roll over, the BBC would save a lot of money with Pat and Kevin on the same side! He's definitely an awesome talent, so it was another great finale - Dave played well in most of the contests but deservedly lost this game with some truly bad moves (Skylab in 1950s??)
