Um....I'm gonna go with the article and say that he's whatever the hell we think he is.....
 
G1 Megatron has the worst by far. He's supposed to be this intergalactic villain and the leader of the Decepticons, and he transforms into a handgun. And what's more, this requires shrinking to such a ridiculous extent that it's completely unbelievable.

If you ask me, that's far more stupid than a city-transforming autobot. I'm also compelled to point out that in the anime series Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, the Macross is transformable and also contains a city within itself. They designed things so that people could live there comfortably in areas not usurped by the transformation. So Transformers didn't do it first, and it's not impossible to do it in a credible way.

Just stay away from the sets of Michael Bay films and he'll be fine.

Omega Supreme was supposed to be a space platform I guess, but still, it's not like they're just lying around.
 
Actually it wasn't design for a city it was ad hoc solution when they folded to the outer Solar System (they didn't know they would end up there) to escape the alien attack (the civilian were evacuated into the ship before hand because it was the safest place). When the Macross did transform it caused massive disruption to the city and the first few time they tried it the civilians living in the ship practically had to rebuild the city (heck some of the city got spaced) before a procedure was established so they could transform without wrecking the city.
