The 4Kids Hate Discussion Thread

Well if we choose to focus on their current performance, then they're certainly in better shape than they were four years ago. They've stopped going crazy with their money, and they're sticking to a formula that works - creating their own shows and also licensing marketable foreign property. However, their re-editing of 5D's is still a bit too excessive for my liking.

I think their biggest problem is that they have a large ego. Obviously losing Pokemon and to a lesser extent One Piece has detracted from this a bit, but even the way they conduct their business - they edit their shows "in advance" for foreign territories - they make themselves out to be this giant anime licensor when they really aren't. They distribute Yugioh and they distribute Dinosaur King. That's it.
 
Yash I said don't assess their performance. We have that other thread for discussing how they do.

I want this thread to assess the detractors, "company dissolution" wishers, and everyone else in between.
 
No, if you want a history lesson, there were two main factors that started it. The first were some Pokemon edit lists that didn't really like the changes 4Kids made (no offense to the author). The second was an article that a fan, who held a grudge against them for the Pokemon dub, wrote the day that the Yu-gi-oh dub aired comparing it to Cardcaptors.

That article got spread all over the anime community, and suddenly everyone knew who 4Kids were and all of the damage they did to Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh. (note that only the first episode had aired at the time)

I'm not giving my views one way or another, just giving some background info in case you weren't there when it happened. (if you knew that and were just trying to make a point, I apologize)
 
4 Kids now have 2 Saturday morning blocks this season - one on CW, one on FOX/My Network TV.

I wish 4 Kids got back the Pokemon franchize and reunited the 1998-2006 voice cast!
 
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that most of us already knew that by now. But personally, I don't count the FOX one as a true lineup, as only 2 of the programs on the lineup (Di-Gata Defenders and Biker Mice from Mars) are new (everything else is reruns) and the lineup seems to only exist as something to run on FOX as an alternative to dead air until it's contract with the network expires.
 
Even minus their anime atrocities ;) , they're still worthy of some hate. They're pretty much the only company on non-cable Sat AM landscape these days aside from whatever superhero cartoon trickles down the CW tube every now and again. Judging by the quality of their programs, anime or not, it's worthy of plenty hate to see how much they've dominated the airwaves with so much floatsam. They're also stupider than they think they are. They haven't had a hit since Pokemon; arguably, they never really MADE a hit--Pokemon's success was all Nintendo's doing, although I'm sure Kahn would like to think otherwise. Yugioh maybe the only noteworthy success. That's it. They've been much better at taking a surefire hit and spinning crap from gold.

Anyway, this is a thread to (complain) about 4kids. It's nice to have one. Obviously when i don't feel in the mood, I won't open this thread. I trust others will do the same.
 
Ok so anyone want to rate a certain site they know that contains a significant amount of hate towards the company?

You can rate as either reluctant or "now and forever" as the minimums and maximums in terms of its hate level.
 
I hate their treatment of anime, even towards kids anime like Kirby which they should have been able to do pretty were they go overboard with. However do I hate 4kids as a company? No.

I do feel however that they cannot handle two cartoon blocks let alone one. That which I praise them for picking up the Saturday morning cartoon slack when others would just let it die it feels like they are in over their heads. That they could make one block with just new episodes and not two and spreeding premiers between two blocks makes both feel incomplete.

Although to say that 90% of all animosity toward 4kids is because of one Piece? Sorry but that's giving too much credit to One Piece. that was their worst but it was also the last in a long line of horrible dubs. They were already hated by most of the anime comunity long before they even picked up One Piece.

The dub was a horror but it was far from the reason for 4kids hate, as most of the hate toward them was already around by then.
 
Hmm. You can't really discuss the detractors without having detractors come in. Also, it assumes that the fault is somehow with the detractors, which is a specious argument at best in this case. It's true that they can get carried away language and vitriol wise, but I'm not sure you will find any true apologists for the company anyway. Those who don't bash, don't really care to participate in 4kids threads anyway.

I honestly am at odds to find a purpose in self analysis concerning 4kids bashing when a cathartic thread is actually probably better. And in either case, to not have ONE guy go batcrap insane in a 4kids thread, whatever purpose the thread may be, is truly idyllic thinking at best.
 
I posted just an hour ago and already the focus on the obvious reasons why there is a sense of hatred of 4Kids have come up. I honestly don't see a point in this thread, but I just don't like negative energy like this to begin with.
 
I have to agree that there's very little purpose to this topic. Okay, so we discuss the people who hate 4Kids, but can we talk about them without mentioning the company itself?

First of all, if a 4Kids hater comes into this topic he'll mention why he/she hates the company so much by talking about the company itself. If you rule company talk out, you're ruling out any chance of debate. This isn't a discussion, it's just a thread stating the obvious, as everyone knows there's people that hate 4Kids.
 
Well, there obviously has to be some discussion of the companies' practices when you're discussing what makes them hated, but the author of the thread didn't create the thread to be an all-out rant on why 4Kids sucks. Then again, I'm not sure what Bratbat exactly intended from this thread...but I'm pretty sure it's wasn't "Let's list the reasons why 4Kids should burn in hell."
 
Sorry if I'm a bit passionate on the practice of dubbing the works from another country?

The person who said the ruined reputation bit nailed it dead-on. In my eyes 4kids has gone to other practices but their reputation exists in me. Whereas with FUNi they may have done stuff like DBZ but recently has also done things like FMA.

Brat started a thread discussing why people hated 4kids. Admittedly my outburst was bad. Typed up in a heat of passion and frustration when I see people trying to support that company. That's my stance. My reasons for why I would detest the company were in that thread.
 
I create this thread to see what exactly that keeps the detractors from burning themselves out after 4Kids went into a hiatus of sorts, has the criticism shifted from adaptation policies to quality of domestic programming (not try to predict), and rating the level of hostility on hostile sites.

Hmm, well there are those joke videos about 'What if 4Kids...".

Those things reinforcing the impression that the company is "that terrible".

But what if those jokersters and other reminders were taken out of the picture?

Well then harder to say for sure whether or not the hate for 4Kids has dispersed, without causing an internet backdraft by merely mentioning the company.

EDIT: I want to see how the hate clicks together on the Internet and makes it self-sustaining.
 
I want to assess the phenomenon of hate towards the company.

This thread is going to do just that.

I will link various video from Youtube so that some of you would get a sense of the way the hate is heading.

Others may link to other forum threads or videos on other sites if they wish.

EDIT: Let me make it more specific, I want to track the hate. I want this thread to basically the discuss the changing aspects, if any, of the anti-4Kids phenomenon.
