The 4Kids Hate Discussion Thread

There is already major thread on the company, but I feel that putting such a topic into that thread would derail it.

This thread is basically to talk about whether or not the company currently deserves to be lashed at and the hate level present around the internet.

Justification of Insults: IMO I feel that the current 4Kids should not be constantly have to bear the image of past follies. But unfortunately that is all the fandom and the fansites have in their heads: An outdated map showing USSR. If they wish to continue lashing at the company they should find more up to date follies and slipups to criticize. If they don't, somebody should tell them that it is getting old (that may have happened but I don't they listened).

Mapping out the danger zones: I can only name one site and that is Youtube. No matter how long time pasts or how improved the company gets in this whole adaptation business, I predict that Youtube is impossible to shift in opinion on this topic. It is like having a one party system: Either follow the leading hateboys or get ridiculed. Better yet it is like a blackhole that keeps on growing: For every 10 hateboys that grow tired of whining, 30 more take their place.

Opinions, not flames, please.

EDIT: Do Not Discuss the company. This thread is suppose discuss its detractors. If this thread begins to discuss the company, it has the potential to burst into a flame war. Do Not Discuss the company.
 
I don't think 4kids is doing that bad recently. Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's dub is great, what I saw of Dinosaur King seems enjoyable and the new season of Chaotic seems promising.
 
Is the current wave of insults justified?

How would you rate sites with a significant amount of hate towards that company?
 
It is still going on right?

Also with the debut of YGO: 5Ds, I feel that the people who hate may see this as an opportunity for the company to slip up once again.

EDIT: Or should I say from their point of view "slip up even more".
 
Have to politely disagree. Personally, I find the the original music to be quite good.



Thing is they're not even translating it or looking at the original. If they were, there wouldn't be as many contradictions as there are & we wouldn't have stuff like this.
 
Please people do not discuss the company.

It could burst into a flame war.

This thread suppose to discuss the need for such a hate given the current circumstances, rating internet sites with significant hostility towards the company, and tracking changing trends within hatedom.
 
This is going places. *cracks knuckles*

They have horrible business sense. They license shows that don't fit within their overall scheme of things. They nickel and dime edits until their reversions eventually collapse upon themselves. Their efforts at tailoring their revised editions towards the youth have completely backfired. They have complete control over four hours on Saturday mornings, which sounds more impressive than it is - mainly because it only actually reaches less than half of the nation.

But really you can surmise their greatest follies with only two words: One Piece. It represents everything wrong about the company, such as how mind-numbingly out of touch they are with their fan base and more importantly the world, and probably 90% of the animosity towards them can be traced to that one series.
 
Actually, if serves as a thread to discuss the hate, instead of a hate thread, then it I feel it does have merit.

In any case, comments later; the presidential debate is on.
 
How can you discuss why people hate this company, without discussing their practices this company does to tick people off. That's not logical, if you want to know why someone hates something you have to discuss what makes the reasons this hatred in the first place.

As a joke I said if 4kids got the rights to TDI, not only would they edit all the content that could be offensive, but edit out all references to Canada as well, because if they think "rice balls" confuses kids, then they would think Toronto maple Leaf tee shirts would confuse kids.

Maybe its unfair to hate 4kids at this point, because they have moved out of the anime industry, but hey, that's show business, once you get a bad rep, no one will take you seriously and sometimes you can't recover. Look at Freddie Prinze Jr. he made a bunch of bad movies and now no one will hire him, 4kids is Freddie Prinze Jr. they made too much crap that there is no way they can recover their rep and it follows them around like a bad stench.
 
That's pretty much what I thought when I saw the thread title. It will most likely bring about a flame war, unfortunately.

I can understand why some people don't like how 4Kids handle anime, but some of them go a bit far with like wanting the company to die, thus costing people their jobs, just because they didn't do an accurate dub to a Japanese cartoon. To me, that just sounds silly and immature. If you don't like their dubs, then that's your opinion and that's perfectly fine. No one is forcing you to watch them or like them, but I just think wanting the people to lose their jobs over some of their dubs is going to far. Wanting 4Kids to change, instead of dying, sounds like a much more mature way of handling it.

Besides all that, I agree with what clipeuh has said as well. Their dub for 5D's looks fine and they're giving Dinosaur King good treatment as well. They aren't even going for any more anime unless it has like toy marketing involved, ie involves a card game/video game/toy related. Ouside of One Piece, which some fans should just let go considering FUNimation is giving the series the treatment that it deserves, I think their dubs are at least watchable.
 
I think that there's a lot of truth to this, honestly. It's easy to get a bad reputation but extremely difficult to get rid of it. Even if 4Kids never touched anime again and made amazing original properties, they'd still be infamous for ruining anime.
 
Much like how people still consider FUNi worst dubs Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. Except there are more of a company that pulled an 180 on us, but people still hold on to them as ruining DBZ back in the day.



I remember that, Though it would have been more effective if Dogasu statement about Haigney being inconsistent with Sonic X dub was in that screen cap.

EDIT: My assessment of you, Yash, is: I like this guy. Yash, you are ok. Unlike some people on Youtube who blast out their own ghetto brand of propaganda, you say with civility.
 
Lasted longer than Funi's One Piece, so they can't be all that bad at marketing... and people have disliked them long before they got OP anyway.

Though I don't think we need a topic about it.. again... as it usually derails into flames.
 
Hey now, they left the Russian text in GoGoRiki, and they allow Dinosaur King to still take place in Japan. They've kind of cleaned up their act in that regard. Kind of.

That's true but unfortunate. I mean it sure would be nice if people would be able to move on but, well, you know people - though many anime fans do have still have very legitimate lasting complaints, of course. The truth is though that most of the people who hate 4Kids aren't their target to begin with, so their hatred won't exactly have all that huge of an impact on the company. The company does keep plugging along and I don't think that its recent financial troubles have so much to do with the online original fanbase hating it rather than overreliance on Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh catching up with them. They look like they'll be pulling out of it though, maybe, since they've managed to make Chaotic into a big hit.

And fun fact: Freddie Prinze Jr. is now a writer for WWE Smackdown and surprisingly is doing an okay job.
 
This thread not to hate about what work they did on One Piece, but rather to discuss the why and what of people hating them for One Piece, other anime, and even non-anime works.

EDIT: I think we can talk about the hate itself without being drawn into it.
