and other 'spoof' movies. Are they ever any good? I remember watching Hot shots back in the day, in the mood for something silly and that's exactly what it was, but I don't think I've ever watched one since that I could call funny. Anyone a fan of these film? Has anyone actually seen this piece of 'cinema'?

I'm not a fan of the new ones but do like the older spoof films such as Hot Shots, Naked Gun, Airplane and Top Secret.

I'd recommend Top Secret if you haven't seen it and want a good spoof.

There is the Frat Pack which is a bunch of actors/writers/directors/producers which do a lot of work together. Suberbad, Knocked Up etc. It's kind of Judd Apatow and his frienRAB.

On the other side of the fence are Abrahams/Zucker/. They were doing good stuff until they took over the Scary Movies and then did the Superhero movie.
Another due seemed to do the rest of the franchise (date/epic/spartans).

Let's not get confused here. Superbad and Knocked Up are "original" movies which, looking at the title, are subject of this spoof. I suppose another thread could ask if the likes of these movies are as good as their older counterparts. I just don't know if you can compare Porky's to the likes of American Pie, I think I may have just got old and the humour isn't as applicable to my life any more (when the likes of Porky's was released, I was about the same age as the characters, so life had exciting possibilities! :D). Mind you, some saw Porky's as the new film and older foreign films, such as Lemon Popsicle, as being more the original.

Anyway, back to the original post (and remembering my statement about my age). Degsyhufc is spot-on with his comment about Airplane, Top Secret etc. Spoofs were very clever and very high quality in those days. Airplane II first introduced the concept of Bill Shatner having a sense of humour. The musical score of Top Secret was fabulous (I actually have it on vinyl somewhere in my garage) and Val Kilmer was fantastic as Nick Rivers. You could watch these films half a dozen times and still spot things you had not seen before, so much effort was put in.

I think some of the early Scary Movie ones were the last to be funny in any way. Meet The Spartans, Date Movie etc. have been truly poor.

Although any spoof is subject to you having an understanding of the original and may become dated due to references to news and culture at that time, it's still worth looking into the likes of Airplane and Top Secret.

Mmh, I actually wonder if this a possible new genre.

I do note that some modern spoof movies spoof comedy films, this has got to be a brave thing to do (and it normally fails). I suppose I expect spoof movies to spoof drama, for example Airplane mainly spoofed the Airport series. Even Meet the Spartans' primary focus was historical drama (I hope!); however, the title of this thread doesn't quite sound like a spoof, it almost seems a compilation

spoof movies over the last few years have been embarrasing, so bad. The last good one was scary movie 2, 3 was decent, and 4 was awfull! since then every spoof movie has been a scary movie wanna be and all of them terrible lol.

although I may say the trailer for this looks watchable but not great, I've heard a few things about it, but its probably s**t

Abrahams/Zucker did the best spoofs in the 80s but it seemed to go wrong for them when they took over the Scary Movies. They also did Superhero movie but the others in a similar vein were done by a different team.

Just finished watching the film in full & there were some quite amusing parts in it which wasn't put in the trailer. Not bad spoof movie but have seen much better in the past. 5/10

Brilliant and underrated movie, too :D

I still discover subtle jokes in in each time I watch it as I get older. First saw it in my early teens and some of the word play went over my head, but get it now.

"I know a little German. He's sitting over there."
:D :D

I need to go dig out the DVD now.
