the 3rd gear and overdrive went out on my 1996 Chrysler Sebring LXi Help?

yes it went out i have been keeping this car up for some time now everything was good i need to know how much it will cost to fix this problem and what i would need to buy to fix it im a girl who dont know much...can anyone help? i need my car asap and anything you could tell me about my problem would be so helpful
are you talking like 100s more than 200 to fix this
 
Common for those cars to have the transmission go out on them around 150- 180 k . You need a rebuild or a used one if you plan on keeping the car on the road. Used ones run $500 - 900 plus labor to install it. A rebuild will usually be in the $1500 and up area.Have a look here to find a used one in your area. Not sure what motor you have so you will need to fill that in.
 
While it sounds like your transmission has dropped dead, you really need to take the car to a mechanic you can trust. If you don't have a regular mechanic, make sure you get a referral from a friend before you spend any money. Even a rebuilt transmission for your car is quite expensive. However, if your car is in good shape in almost every other area, then it's far less expensive to invest in a new transmission than to buy a new car.
