The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time

I'm just going to assume they weren't factoring in vocal quality at all in their assessment of each singer.

I just can't believe Kurt Cobain is on that list. I don't care what anyone says but I think he is the most overrated person in music ever.

Rolling Stone editors must be in their 70's going by some of the lists they come out with. Why do the even bother printing the thing anymore??? Or perhaps get some new editors that have actually listened to new music in the last 20 years.

Pretty funny stuff. Why would anyone take Rolling Stone's list seriously when its made up of vocalists who are known (name-wise atleast), to almost everyone who subscribes to that magazine in the first place? Its all self-gratifying BS akin to the act of masterbation.

Anywayz, some comments-

1. Thom might get on some top 100 list of singers somewhere depending on the criteria involved, but I don't think it really works here considering the audience that RS usually caters to. He's not abysmal vocally, but neither is he everyone's cup of tea. I suppose he was included for sake of acknowledging the current British music scene.

2. The best way to fight a fanboy is to give them an actual example of an artist who is superior to their established idol. If they continue to bitch afterwarRAB, then just ignore them.

3. Mike Patton's acclaimed "versatility" as a vocalist is a bit too hyped for its own good. What about Devin Townsend, Varg Vikernes, Daniel Gildenlow, Mikael Akerfeldt, Darroh Sudderth, and countless other damned-good singers who have done impressive work of their own?

I wasn't really questioning his inclusion at all, was just questioning its placement on the list considering it was quite high when there are some much better vocalists out there who were positioned much lower than Cobain, or who didn't even make the cut.

Yeah, that is quite dodgy.

Oh, and I'm a Radiohead fan, but I don't think Thom Yorke is a brilliant singer. Christina Aguilera could be justified in a higher position than him, even if I hate her music.

No way Bob Dylan is in the top 1,000 singers ever and he is in their top 10.

John Lennon 23 spots ahead of Janis Joplin!?

Thom Yorke is a better singer then Wilson Pickett!!?

Robert Plant at 15 ahead of Jackie Wilson and Van Morrison!!!?

Willie Nelson, BB King, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Kurt Kobain, Prince, Bob Marley and Don Henley aren't even good singers. They had distinctive sounRAB and made great music (most of them) but are not recognized for their vocals.

This is a list of revered singers and singers from revered banRAB.

Angel Dust is definitely a more cohesive record than any of the other ones, but there's a few strange things going on, from the satirical anthem "Kindergarten" to the oddball slap bass on "Crack Hitler." It was (as you probably know) Patton's first assimilation of creative control within the band, and he brought so many great vocal themes into the mix. It's just as much of a part of Patton's mark upon music as anything he did with Mr. Bungle or his side projects.

Don't generalize like that dac, I think Thom Yorke and Matt Bellamy are both good. And while I think Bellamy completely outclasses Yorke, NEITHER belong on a top vocalists list.

Oh yeah there's definitely a lot of cool stuff in the mix. Besides the ones you mentioned, there's also the sampled string piece in "Malpractice", the organ outro in "****lobber" (look I just discovered another word this board censors) and the cheerleading chant in "Small Victory". But somehow it was integrated into more of a singular sound.

I think we cross-posted with an edit I made to my last post. Did you see the paragraph I added?
