Alright, what the fuck. Am I the only person that's offended when people say 'thats so gay'? Just...what??? It doesn't even make any sense to say that, because it actually has the opposite meaning. Like, unless you see a pair of dykes with cats and short spikey hair kissing, it doesn't really make any sense to me for people to say that.

And I know this doesn't happen in all places, but it happens in my town. I've noted with more than enough evidence that the people that say 'thats gay' are the people that'll go up to me or one of my friends and start like, giving us shit. "Dude, that's so fucking gay."
"God damn queer, what the fuck are you doing?"
"Hey fag, where's my hamster?"

Just...ugh. What's up with people? Why do they have to be so stupid and hurtful?
 
Ive had to live with that too. Ive had a girl come up to me and ask meif they let me in the malls because Im bi. I ended up being nice and not punching her face, but I hate the phrase "Thats so gay!"

Its like theyre saying being gay is a bad thing. Pfsshh, yeah right.

Theyre just jealous because we get more pussy than them. :D

I almost got suspended the other day cause some asshole was beating up my girlfriend and I'm the one that gets in trouble for giving him a black eye and sore balls? Psh.
 
People can justify that it means something totally different like, stupid for instance, but why THAT particular word, why not just use the original word instead of using that when you know you can offend people.

Same goes for "your mom/mum".

Why use someone's mother as your insult against that person? It's ridicilous.
 
Why did the homosexuals have to ruin a fine word like "gay" to make it mean homosexual? Why can't it mean happy any more?


Seriously, there's a lot worse things to get pissed about; the way a word is used is pretty small potatos. If it bothers you so much, ignore them and don't associate with those who use it that way.

It gets used as an insult by those who have no problem with homosexuality because it gets a response from the target. it's like calling someone who's skinny but sensitive about their weight, fatty. It doesn't mean the person using it has a problem with fat people, but use it because it strikes a nerve.
 
I use it... I say "That's pretty gay" or something like it to describe a lot of stuff I dislike. And I'll keep using it no matter how many people disagree because of one of my favorite rights, Freedom of Speech.

Plus, at school, you can't say "That's fucking retarded" and get away with it.. but "That's gay" doesn't get teachers on your ass and result in detentions.
 
Well.. It kind of depends on the teacher that you say it in front of. Some teachers don't care if you say "shit" in there class, and others freak out if you say "that sucks".

And it depends on the person here as well, a kid with a bad reputation can't say anything that can be confused with a curse word and get away with it... and a preppy type of kid can get away with almost anything.
 
Yeah at my school teachers will bitch you out for saying something is "gay" in a derogatory manner. It's the law or something.

I don't really like it, and I never ever say it -- in fact the other day I said the word "faggot" (me and my other bi friend were talking about how mean people are to each other) and it took me like 30 years to get the word to come out, lol. I don't bitch people out for saying it though. They can say what they want. It's offensive, but people are still gonna say it, so there's no point getting all pissed off about it you know?
 
I was going to tell you why people say things of that nature, but BriOn confirmed my suspicions. Not surprisingly, I lost interest. People who say- "like, oh my god, like, that's so, like, gay."

...they obviously have a huge void where maturity belongs. Do as WTF's "happy" pirate suggested- ignore them.
 
i have to say that in some instances "gay" is a legitimate adjective to use, even if in a bad way.

the fact that people use "that's gay" so frequently is exactly because they want to shock a few people or they just are really so desensitized to the usage of the word.

oh and reacting badly to it just makes it worse.;)
 
Learn tolerance, people. Let the small stuff slide. And most of it is small stuff.

Some people are just inconsiderate idiots. There's nothing you can do about it. Just deal with it.

Good God, I hope I didn't offend any inconsiderate idiots who might be reading this. Or Christians that don't like people using their Lord's name in vein like I just did. Or atheists for calling God 'good' when they don't believe that he/she/it even exists ... :rolleyes:
 
You know. that phrase "That's so gay" reminds me of another name calling word that makes no sense. I've heard people call guys, "Pansy." Another slang for gay or girlie. Guess what, you can send that flower through the toughest ice storms and wintry blizzards and the damn flower will survive beyond any other flower. You can step on it and even do the twist and the damn flower with survive.

So my point is, if you are going to call someone a Pansy or Gay understand why you are calling them that. Gay people are just as strong as straight people. They really aren't any different. Pansies are strong flowers. Pretty and delicate looking. but could probably beat up any flower that comes it's way. Looks can really be deceiving and so can prejudices and stereotypes.
