That'll be the day and Stardust

Not so keen on Stardust, but That'll Be The Day is one of the faves from my teens. I remember lots of discussion at school the day after it was on telly. It was deemed quite rude at the time.
 
They were great films, I remember them very well. Probably the first films about music/rebellion I saw, thinking about it. David Essex was yummy in them. ;)

Not sure I'd want to see them again, watching them as a world weary adult just won't be the same. :(

im only 19 but i saw these movies when i was bout 16 for the first time my mams 41 and she used to love David Essex when she was younger, and i like all the 60's and 70's music anyway so she thought i'd like them too, and i did!!

Stardust makes me cry all the time, :cry: the first time i watched it, i was sobbing all day at school!! hehe!

I love all the songs on it, ma mam has the ronco double album, but i'd really love the CD's if i could get them, does anyone know of these??

I want all the songs that Jim McLaine's group
'The Stray Cats' sang though as well, do you know where i can get those from?

Also, i've never saw Silver Dream Racer before, Whats it about and what happens on it, why's it so sad ???

If I tell you why the end is sad, it will spoil the end of the film for you. Get it on DVD and watch it. Great film :)
 
Thanks i'll try there, it was really a cd that i had wanted, but ive looked everywhere and it doesnt seem that it was ever released on a CD! :cry:
 
What's sort of interesting about these films is that Jim McClaine (I think that's Essex's character) is a bit of a shit really. The first film has him losing his virginity in a Butlins chalet in one of the most gruesomely unsexy scenes ever, leaving his mate (Ringo Starr) to get beaten up and abandoning his missus and child to be in a band. In the second film he gets right to the top by usual route of selling out, sacking stroppy band members and having a hard ass manager (JR Ewing!). He gets a Britt Ekland type 'bird' a la Rod but loses her when she catches him with a couple of naked groupies, gives acid to a dog, performs a terrible overblown rock opera on tv, enRAB up a recluse in a castle in Spain and ORAB in the middle of a comeback TV interview. Serves him right! Stardust's title track is pretty good.
 
No, I'm not totally slagging these films, they contain a lot of truth and the lad ain't bad in them.. but they are sleazy and suitably so. Slade in Flame's a good one too!
 
He is very much the Anti Hero in the films. He also had sex with an underage girl in the 1st film which disgusts even Mike (Ringo).

There's some interesting supporting cast in both films. That'll Be The Day has Ringo, Billy Fury, Keith Moon and the girl he looses his virginity to is played by Debbie Watling (Dr Who's assistant Victoria).

In Stardust apart from Adam Faith and Larry Hagman there's Paul Nicholas, Dave EdmunRAB Karl Howman and Keith Moon. I recall Paul Nicholas was replaced by Peter Duncan of Blue Peter fame in The Stray Cats.

Looking on IMDB there's an uncredited appearance by Sue Holderness (Marlene from OFAH) in That'll Be The Day.
