Thank you, government

Somewhere along the way the government confused "Everyone deserves the right to get a college education" with "EVERYBODY NEERAB A COLLEGE EDUCATION!!!!".

...and at your second sentence.

Within 5-10 years We are going to see the collapse of private universities nationwide. The only private Universities with a bullish future are the Ivy Leagues for the elite and well gifted. 70% of those in college at this moment are utterly throwing precious time and taking very serious risks incurring massive debt. Your degree will not be worth the paper it is printed on in the very near future, prepare to accept any job you have the opportunity for. Most will be working the equivalent as a gas station attendant with the exception of Health Care, Agriculture jobs will also be in high demand in the future.

If you get a degree in art history, chances are you will be a graduate student. There has to be people to TEACH and do RESEARCH. But let's make it more expensive for those people.

yes the smart play is to have everyone stay out of the job market for 5+ years and to take out $100k+ of loans so they can dig ditches

that is an intelligent, efficient use of time and resources

you're right it would be a terrible thing to make public universities cheap and available to whoever wants to attend, rich or poor. maintaining the educational status quo is a much better option.
