New to the board, but needing to rant....
I'm an "old fuck", as George Carlin would say...mid 50s.
Had surgery last year for my legs and they ended up in worse shape in many ways. Now I have a spinal cord stimulator implanted to mask the pain. Doesn't get rid of it...just puts a "pins and needles" feeling over the whole region to freak out my brain. Beats hurting all the time, but I'm still hurting...just not as conscious of it because the rest of my leg (well, nerves in my spine, actually) are freaked.
Though I do have to say it DOES give me some good lines: "I'm the Borg your mother warned you about." "That Energizer bunny has nothing on me." "Of course I'm 'going green' ... I'm a battery powered hybrid." "I had a battery backup installed...wanna see my USB dongle?!"
So now, about once a week or so I have to charge my internal battery pack. Yeah, every so often I have to stop and just "charge my ass" via a wireless connection through my skin. And yeah, I DO get to avoid long lines at airports now, with that internal chunk of silver oxide in stainless steel
BUT anyway, it was a sucky year. Wife had surgeries too. And she's got rheumatoid arthritis and a couple other autoimmune things going on....not HIV or anything, but related to being a woman with bad genetics. So she's depressed about all that. Which means, well, you know...
Finances suck....lost over 1/2 my value in the market. And the damn credit card companies decided to ratejack my accounts because I missed one payment for one card by one day because the bill arrived extremely late...the day I paid it. (That company reset my account status, but the rest of them...they're bastards...)
On the other hand, yeah, some good things...went to Belize and Vegas twice. Had a lot of fun, ate at great restaurants and actually came out ahead on the Vegas trips. But we did them because of my wife's health...just in case she couldn't go in the future because of her health issues.
I mean, sure...not bad 2008, but some very sucky times. And I guess 2009 will be, um, "interesting" for sure.
Maybe I just need to be cleared from the implant surgery so I can get in the wind again on my motorcycle.
Thanks for the vent space.
