Text messaging issue, normal?

Loving my new flashed A900M. I did notice however that when I send a text message, I have to leave out the prefix "1" (I.E. "1" 555-555-5555). If I send a message with 1 it wont send and undel details the error code is 00096. Is this normal? In my phone book all my nurabers start with 1 and it looks like I will have to change them all.

You cant use 1
just the area code and phone nuraber

Yea I think that is just a GSM thing, I've seen that b4. I don't know for sure cuz I never had anything but CDMA or Analog and never needed to add a "1" to the nuraber. Isn't the "1" just the country code for the United States?
