Text Messages Not Sending

First time user here at Android Community and I found out about these forums while trying to resolve my SMS problem!

BUT...unfortunately, none of the solutions people have mentioned have worked for me.

I have the same problem as well when sending a text message. It says "Message Not Sent" and I called CC and I did almost everything possible to try to get texting to work; hard reset, removed sim card/battery, powered on /off, etc. Still..."message not sent"!

So a few more calls to CC and they've told me that this is a "known issue" and people in the Engineering department are "working" on it.

Is this true for anyone else that can't send a text message? OH and the weird thing about this is that I can receive an SMS message & send out an MMS message. WTH?!

Help meeee AC!

I had this happen to me twice. I was still receiving incoming messages, but my text would not send. I turned off the phone turned it on, and it sent.

Ok I turned off the phone, waited a couple mins, turned it back on, tried to send a text and still a message not sent notification.

I then took my SIM card out (along with the battery), put it back in my old phone and it started to send texts as it normally should. Took the SIM card out of the old phone, put it back in the G1 and again, message not sent.

Ugghh I don't know what the real problem is. Is it really the network (even though I can receive texts and send MMS?) or is it the phone itself...?

I'm having the same problem. I can receive but can't send. I too called CC and they suggested that a new SIM card might solve the issue (my current one is about 7 years old, back from when i was with VoiceStream!) I'll try this out and let you know how it goes.

Hey mpc451, yes it is most likely your SIM card.

I forgot to post my solution to my problem but it was indeed my 2-year old SIM card causing the problem. I went to the local T-Mob store and replaced my SIM with a new one and now text messaging has been working fine.

This has happened to my previous phone.
I have had the O2 sim card for about 7 years and it has never stopped working, and I had had the phone for about 2 years. It stopped sending out texts, I could recieve texts, calls and I could make make calls, I took it to the O2 shop about a month ago and a man fixed it for me, but I bought a new phone today and the same has happened again, it doesn't send out texts. When I first got the phone fixed, the man mentioned something about a Sim number and the phone number that is used to send out texts were different, he changed one of them, and then it worked again, so I think that the sim card and my new phone have different numbers that are used to send out texts. I am taking it back tomorow and getting it fixed, and I will try to find out exactly what it is that has gone wrong, and how to fix it. I advise you to go to the shop where you got your sim card from and describe the problem to them, and ask them to fix it. He did it for free before, and I presume that it has occured again because I have a different phone.

This happened to me just yesterday. Got my phone + sim on G1 release day. Rebooted my phone and problem resolved. Not quite sure how to reproduce this but it happens once every other month. (Btw, OS is rooted; but it occurred even before rooting)

Hey guys, I think I might have found a solution.

This happened to me within the first week of having my HTC Incredible. I could receive texts but not send them out - they always went to Undelivered. The first time this happened, I went to Verizon and they of course couldn't do ****. They called tech support and long story short is after an hour they just factory-wiped the phone which meant I had to start from scratch, apps and all.

This same scenario happened again, just this afternoon as I type this. Texts would receive but not send. And then I thought back to what I did last nite...In Messages > Settings, I changed my callback number from 805xxxxxxx to 805.xxx.xxxx . Meaning, I prefer to use dots to separate my area codes and numbers instead of dashes or nothing at all. Now, this works just fine for all my other Contact information. However, when I changed my callback number back to the prior format of 805xxxxxxx then all my text messages sent out at once - all 5 Undelivered messages.

I also changed my priority setting from "Normal" to "High," however after my messages sent out, I changed it back to "Normal" and everything still sends out fine.

So I recommend double checking the format of your callback number (or maybe uncheck the "send callback number" option altogether) and see if that does anything.

Thanks kkocka! I have an Incredible as well and over the last couple days I wasn't able to send out text messages (everything else seems fine). I called Verizon and got tech support, the guy was helpful, tried ye old *228, 1 (to update the phone), turning it off & on, etc. The next step was to wipe it.

Your solution worked! Change the number from 123-456-7890 to 1234567890 and I'm cool!
