text message threads reversed since 2.1 update

Since I got an automatic update for 2.1 on my HTC Legend last week, it is now reversing the whole of each thread for text messages. that is it shows the oldest messages first, and i have to scroll through all the messages on that thread to read the new one i have just received. some of these threads are 100's of messages. and i need to keep some of the info on them etc so don't want to delete whole threads. Before the update it showed the newest message first and was great. can't find anyway to change a setting for this. Any ideas?

Hi hackxxx and welcome to the AC Forums.

I can't speak for Android 2.0, but on my G1 (1.6) oldest messages are at the top of the list. On my SGS (2.1) oldest messages are also at the top of the list. In all cases, when you access a thread it shows you the bottom of the thread, so you see the newest message immediately without having to scroll at all.

Are you saying your newest message is at the top of the list? Or are you saying it's at the bottom but when you access the thread it shows the top of list instead of the bottom?

yes, the thread list shows the oldest at the top, the newest at the bottom. before update it took me to the newest message at the bottom (ie the one that has just been received and the one i want to read). Since update it shows the oldest/ top of the list and i have to scroll through to read the most recent.

Are you using the default messaging app, or some alternative one you have installed like Handcent?

Try Handcent on the Market? It's better than the stock messaging app anyway.

I installed handcent now, it has a lot of nice features. But I'd actually prefer the default app. How can I report a bug on this (if it is one)?

That depends if it's Google's messaging app or the phone manufacturer's (e.g. HTC's, Motorola's, Samsung's, etc).

If it's Google's, which I doubt it is, the site is http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/list but check it hasn't already been filed.

If it's the phone manufacturer's, which it probably is unless you have a Nexus One or old HTC phone like the Dream (G1), then you'll need to ask them.
