Texas, Stay Classy

Historical context is never justification for civil rights violations. It was the most delusional time in American History and should be taught as such.

Should we educated our children that the Salem Witch trials were OK because at the time people were ignorant enough to believe in witches?

This is teaching our children that its OK to think with emotion and not rationale and knowing as many facts as possible. Even suggesting that McCarthyism was justified due to historical context gives way to people thinking violation of the constitution by the government is OK as long as its to protect us even if its from a false enemy. Lo and behold, the Patriot act with the same slack jaws supporting it to fight the trrrrrrists that would have been jacking off to McCarthy's portrait for saving us from the commies.

when a group of ideologies want to indoctrinate an alternate reality to their kids not much is going to stand in their way of doing it. the only reason this happened is because the culture of texas allowed it to happen. you're preaching to the choir and a bunch of empty pews

It doesn't matter WHO does it, it's still going to be political as fuck. It's just the nature of the business.

Either this is an EPIC troll-a-thon by many of the usual posters on DIAC or they really are some of the dumbest people on the planet. Scary, scary, scary. I need to stay out of this thread.

enjoy your chuckle. it's a lot easier to poke fun than to justify antiquated and discredited ideologies.

Do you honestly believe civil rights weren't infringed on by McCarthy?

Nothing else...just answer that one question with a yes or no.

I didn't take a position either way. Read again. And AFAIK, TX is changing the curriculum to portray McCarthy in a more positive light- not claim that McCarthyism did or didn't violate civil rights.

Really???

So people who have no clue about the fundamentals of birth control and dental hygiene should have the final word on history???

Tell you what. Should you ever need a serious medical procedure, instead of going to a person whose bases their work on academic research, just talk to a bunch of your friends and neighbors on the street on what should be done.

"Derp derp... I duuno, sounds pretty major. Might like want to have 12 rattle snakes in the room instead of the usual 10."

Speaking of you being dumb, here is a perfect example. You deny the obvious fact that academia is filled with politics, then try to use a red herring to change the focus. The issues involved here are mostly subjective. Essentially the motivations of why things happened.

So in your typical ignorant far left wing intolerance, only the political masters in academia should determine those subjective meanings.

You are literally a joke.
