Texalium Fiber what is it

ok so im looking to mod my white 848 and have some cabon on it already. i love the white and ran across this stuff on motowheels. its called texalium fiber. it looks to be white in color or silver and think would be hot and add that touch of wow on my white 848. the problem is i have no idea of what it is? is it just silver carbon fiber? or is it something new. how heavy is it? is it strong like carbon? any info would be great
 
Well I am not familiar with it, but It certainly can't be much heavier than the stock ABS parts it would be replacing. As far as strength goes, I really don't think it matters too much. Anyone other than a pro racer is not going to be using CF for load bearing parts. Or shouldn't be. Those things are meant to be replaced regularly...You can get CF weaves, the cosmetic layer, in many different colors and styles. Just remember, the weave is a applied finishing layer, it really isn't what true pre-CF looks like. It is just black boring stuff.....

If you like it, I say go for it. And post up some pictures so we can see what you are on about..

True carbon isn't always black. It depends on the weave size and the twill. Also depends on if it's pre-preg and how it's prepped, among other things.
 
True, but as a general rule....was just pointing out that the fancy "CF" look we get on all those Shift-Tech parts is a cosmetic layer, not a structural layer.....hence the cheapo China based fiberglass with a carbon weave placed over it and then sold on Ebay to the unwashed masses as "dude I got an amazing deal on this" carbon fibre....
 
Yes the china crap is fiberglass with a carbon wrap. However the shift-tech stuff is generally carbon all the way through, with alternating weave angles for structure.
 
thanks for the info im not really concerned with structure in a safety manner but in a instillation manner. and a durability factor. ill hit up shift tech and see what they have to say about it. i did a google search on it and didnt really find any info on it.
another question is can you dye CF to different colors and still have the weave showing so people know its carbon fiber?
 
the silver fiber is made by a company called hexcel and is a colored glass fiber and a bit more stiff then glass but a wee bit less then carbon. i work with it often and i happen to like the finished look of it but it is not as crashable as carbon but fine for looks IMO
