Tethering on a K1m

Hi all,

I have a Sprint KRZR monster packed to Cricket and would like to use it as a modem. When I plug the phone in, "Motorola USB Modem" shows up in my device manager, so I create a new dialup connection that is set to use the phone as a modem with these settings:

Nuraber: #777
Username: [email protected]
Password: cricket

But when I try to connect, nothing happens. The phone doesn't show any output, and the computer shows the error "Error 777: The connection attempt failed because the modem (or the other connecting device) on the remote computer is out of order."

When I setup the connection to dial any other nuraber, the phone's screen changes to show that it's dialing that nuraber. Anybody have any ideas about what's going on?

Thanks in advance.

I remeraber reading somewhere about tethering Cricket phones as modems. It requires some special setup in the modem settings. I wish I could remeraber where I read that.....

An updated razr can be made to dial and connect to the data services, but you won't be able to route any of your data traffic, as your account won't be allowed by the backend servers.

I haven't been able to get a KRZR or a SLVR to even make the connection. Not sure why.

What do you mean by an "updated" RAZR? Have you verified that your Tethered NAI is set to match your NAI? Also, do you have your PC's browser set to use Cricket's proxy?

I'm going to try to get it to dial #777 over Bluetooth when I get home today, but I'm not expecting it to work. I'll keep poking at settings and see if I come up with anything, and if I do, I'll definitely keep everyone posted.

All suggestions are welcome.

The RAZRs that came out when Cricket first launched them aren't able to do EVDO. If you get them flashed to the current firmwares, it should be fine.

I haven't tried configuring to use the proxy yet. The RAZR I have doesn't have DUN over bluetooth in its stack, and my cable is in my desk, elsewhere.

NO. The firmware update fixed some issues with power management settings and picture id. the original version worked with DATA services no update required. the newest cricket firmware came out well over a year ago, and is the one circulating on the interweb.
