I am 19 years old and I have struggled with school my whole life. Why I was never tested for ADD, I don't know. I used to get F's and D's mostly and I quit High school my junior year and went on to get my GED. I want to enroll in Community college but i'm so scared that I won't be able to concentrate and i'll be wasting hundreds of dollars.

I really want to go to the doctor to check if I have ADD but the thing is I am not covered on my parents insurance so how much would this cost me? I live in Nevada if that helps.

The "test" is just a 30-60 minute conversation with a licensed pychiatrist. Open up your phone book or do some searches online to find the most reputable person. Don't settle on someone "cheap" because thats what kind of help you'll be getting.. cheap help. You want to make sure you have the right meds, and right dose.. you don't want someone to just throw some pills in your face and kick you out the door.

Overall, its going to be expensive. Pychiatrists get paid anywhere from $100-$400 an hour. You'll need several follow-up visits. The first visit, they will prescribe you pills (most likely Adderal) which will cost around $100-$200 per refill (since you have no insurance. if you did, they would be free or very cheap - $20-$50). You will than have 1 follow-up after 1 week. If all is good, you'll have another in 2 weeks to a month. Than, if all is good again, another in 3 months, than another in 6.

Once your all sorted out.. you'll be visiting her once a year.
