Terrible pain when i press on rib cage

just to the left of the center of the chest cavity,when i touch the rib it feels like i have been shot,the pain is terrible,the area that hurts is the size of a nickle.it hurts when i breath and really hurts when i cough or sneeze.i had a chest x-ray a month ago,the dr. said nothing showed up,the pain is driving me crazy.its worse than touching a nerve in a tooth.
 
That's strange. It does sound like a crack/fractured rib; I've had one myself (although they don't xray here beacuse the treatment is the same...nothing) but if it's not showing up, healing, I'd be vigilant with the doctors, you're in pain!Although the pain wasnt in a small area, it was more dispersed. do you have muscles and stuff in that area? I had a knotted muscle in my shoulder and that was pure agony. Hope they can find out whats up.
