Terrible news!

So after waiting patiently to be eligible for the N1 they stop shipment. not only have i been waiting but my G1 is finally dieing on me these past 4 days. with just 3 weeks to be over that 22 month line this terrible news come out. this sucks i really have no idea what to do. Hopefully this last shipment can wait out 3 weeks.

Go pick up the samsung vibrant from Costco for 99. Great phone i have n1 my wife has vibrant. Vibrant is better. Night mode works great makes up for no led flash just fine. Processor is faster. More built in storage. Screeen is much nicer. Speaker/ audio is much better. Thinner, etc. Vibrant is better.

Yep - the Samsung Galaxy S range of phones, including the Vibrant, do outspec the Nexus One in ever way. However, the Nexus One is much more "rootable". There isn't the choice of custom ROMs for the SGS range.

Of course, if you're not bothered about rooting, then just get the Vibrant.

Sure to be more expensive (unless there's a carrier deal) is the up-coming Nokia N8. The interesting thing about the phone is it will work on both at&t and TMo 3g. (And, of course, Europe) GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900/2100Automatic switching between WCDMA & GSM bands

It will be. The SGS does get pretty low marks for build quality when next to high end HTC phones (including the Nexus One). My argument is that I'd spend all my time looking it its totally awesome screen, not the back or the sides, so I don't care.

Also shiny phones like the SGS look exactly the same if you put an invisibleSHIELD on them, whereas HTC phones end up looking like a shiny phone when you put one on them.

The build quality of the phone is fine. Yes HTC's newest and motorola's newest phones are metal or some sort of harder matte plastic on some of them, but look at the 3gs it's all plastic and look at most phones until recently they were all plastic. Also, many new phones that are coming out are still plastic, so it's really not a big deal. Yes, it doesn't feel luxurious like the N1, but most of the focus is on the screen, and it feels nice enough.
