Terrible Hollywood remakes of Foreign movies

Sadly I like the remake of 'My Father the hero'! You just caught me out!

But it is not as good as the original.

My favourite film is 'Betty Blue' and if they ever try to remake that, I will personally hold a picket line on the studio!:D

They shouldn't be remaking Infernal Affairs at all, but seeing as they are, they should replace Jack Nicholson. I just can't imagine him as the gang boss. Unless I'm missing something and he is playing the police chief, but then that's even more unlikely.

I bought Infernal Affairs 2 a while ago and I saw part 3 last week, both much better than I thought they were going to be. I wonder if they'll be remaking those as well.

There's been some good efforts, like The Ring and The Grudge, but there have been some poor choices as well, like City of Angels, which was just unnecessary, or Solaris, which was well-intentioned but not a patch on the original.

And I'll reserve judgement on Fahrenheit 451 until I see it, although I'd expect Frank Darabont to do it justice.

And I'm not going to mention the Wicker Man. Damn.

I think that 'Solaris' can easily sit side by side with the original film, which, although I do love it, is sometimes a real chore to sit through. It was a great job by Soderburgh to sum up all the same themes though in such a short script.

I'm probably in the camp that prefers the remake of 'The Ring' to the original, although neither film is particulary that great and both have exactly the same flaws.

The remake of Taxi was awful. What annoys me is when they semi-remake a film or just use the title to promote it more, i.e. The Italian Job (2003) which was hardly set in Italy and The Jackal which is nothing like The Day of The Jackal, a great movie.
