Terminator Salvation - any good ?

In TS, earth post Judgement day was shown as normal as could be. Military bases still in use, humans living freely above ground, radio communication, submarines in use etc. Considering Skynet had been self aware for years the you would of thought there would of been a serious presence of robot's and humans would of forced underground like in the original glimpse's.

TS could of been a good standalone action film, but its poor in the Terminator franchise worse than T3 for me.

Skynet was also defended by one Terminator
 
I don't argue your point re:

one terminator protecting Skynet, one Terminator destroying it

as I'd agree, that was ridiculous, but aesthetically, its easy to except changes in that universe.
 
I would have thought the reason there were not teams of Ts protecting skynet would be the arrogance of skynet - assuming that the human resistance would never be able to put up a good enough fight to warrant a number of Ts at the 'gates'.
That is what I thought for myself when watching the movie and that same question entered my head.
 
Salvation is the worst Terminator film.

Having the main character be someone who was never seen or even mentioned in the previous films was an odd choice. John Connor and his wife are little more than window dressing. The wife in particular is obviously only there because T3 said she needed to be.

The whole film is pointless and bland. Even the action scenes aren't that enjoyable because they're so meaningless.
 
still, no, if skynets so paranoid its sending robots back in time its not that arrogant. never mind it upgrading its fighting stock. in any case a military computer should be the most brilliant tactician ever. just another game of chess to it so arrogance wouldn't be part of the picture. anyways, having a few defenses is far different from the total absurdity of only having one terminator around. being that no biologicals were necessary for skynet, protective measures at its headquarters would be rather simple to make. just dumping gas here or there during an invasion would be enough:P

anyways it was just one tiny aspect of stupid in a retarded film. john connor uses unencrypted short wave to announce his plans... good job man. apparently he thinks that skynet can build giant air ships and mechs but can't monitor short wave:P
 
Hated it, Christian Bale was so one dimensional if I still didn't have fond memories of American Psycho I would of thought he was a B movie actor, Michael Ironsides appearance didn't help either - he's wonderful in Total Recall and Starship Troopers but jamming him into this small part just added to the sense of direness.

I think they forgot the humanity, I really didn't care about any of them, anyone else rooting for the machines?
 
I thought the gritty look of the film was really good and the CGI robots and airships (HKs) flawless but I watched it on DVD last night and the CGI ships and motorbike robots did not look quite right.

Methinks that the massive cinema screen kind of washes out the difference between real and CGI yet on a small 28" widescreen CRT the pics look much cleaner and vivid thus making the CGI not work so well.

Anyone else notice this?

I loved Avatar at the flics but this does not bode well for the DVD release.
 
I got Salvation on Blu Ray for Christmas and the effects looked great. Maybe it's just the low resolution of DVD's that makes it seem less clear. Especially seeing as film is much higher resolution than anything your CRT TV (or even current HDTV's) can display, there's no way that it can be a cleaner or more vivid picture than at the cinema.

With Avatar, i think when you see standard definition clips it looks quite naff, but the 5 minute HD preview that was on Xbox Live's Zune Video Marketplace a few weeks ago looked almost as stunning as it did in the cinema (obviously losing a little bit of it's impact due to being only in 2D).
 
i quite liked it - and thought it was the best blockbuster movie of 09 - and that includes star trek even though i'm a big trekkie and enjoyed that movie very much.

even though they technically should have stopped after number 2 - which finished the franchise really - this new movie is good. it was better then 3, even though i thought t3 was okay - pointless - but okay. and nice to arnie act for the last time.


OP did you finally get the movie? what did you think of it?

i just got it on bluray, only this new week in play.com's steel box exclusive.
 
Its a very enjoyable movie - constantly action packed, great action scenes and set pieces, great grungy, gritty aesthetic, good atmosphere, but dont expext anything remotely humerous or deep. Think of it as an action movie rather than Terminator movie.
