Terminator 3

It's funny how many people hate the "Arnie wearing comedy glasses" bit in T3 (thus proving that fanboys really don't have a sense of humour), yet don't find the Arnie "thumbs up" at the end of T2 as bad. As much as I love the film, I always cringe at that bit.

I think The Terminator, Terminator 2 and Terminator 3 are all excellent films. I don't understand why T3 gets slagged off so much. It's one of the few trilogies where the third film is also a classic IMO. It was quite different to T2, especially in Arnie's portrayal of the Terminator, but then T2 was quite different to T1 in the same way. The third one had some brilliant stuff in it - I loved the parody of the "I need your clothes" scene from T2, and the crane chase is one of the all time great chase sequences in movie history. (I read that they actually considered flipping the real crane over in the street but opted for cgi on health & safety grounRAB). And the shock moment when O'Connor asks when Judgment day will begin and Arnie tells him it starts in 3 hours time.
And all the sexual reversal stuff with the Terminatrix penetrating male sex symbols (cars, etc.)
Excellent stuff!

The theme of him becoming more human made a nice counter-point to the first film, in which he initially appeared human and became more mechanical as he got damaged. I loved seeing how Sarah had developed from a fluffy-bunny in the first film to a hard warrior in the second. John's relationship with his mother was very strong. I loved the scene in which he stops her destroying Arnie's chip. He changes from being a wastrel to being a potential leader. The moral story was also strong; especially when Sarah resolved to murder Dyson in order to prevent a worse evil from happening, but then can't go through with it.

It really surprises me to hear people say it has no soul.

I have always thought T3 would be a decent enough if it was a stand alone movie. But as a sequel to two classics, it was always going to struggle, it doesn't match up to them.

It's enjoyable enough, but that's not really good enough for a Terminator movie
