Terminator 3

On last night on Five. Watched most of it, but I think I'll pop the DVD in later. I still really enjoy the film, even though I love the first two dearly. There's a lot of fun to be had in it I reckon, Arnie's still up to the job, the TX is fantastic imho, and some of the set pieces are tremendous.

It's a retread of the second film for sure, but still not an awful film. Cameron fans hate it, but for everyone else it's really great fun.

Enjoyed t3 after seeing it again on 5 last night, its nowhere near as good as the previous movies but the action scenes are pretty cool, didnt like nick stahl though he was very weak as connor, shame edward furlong couldnt come back he was the best connor, the new movie wasnt up 2 much either, was nice to see arnie kick bales ass though lol

Anyone seen t2-3d?its really good and would have made a better t3 movie.

Probably because it is not directed by his Royal Highness James Cameron, who incidentally should be the first against the wall for crimes against humanity for making Titanic

Let me relate a story about the first Terminator movie to try an bring some perspective...

I used to visit the old Forbidden Planet bookshop in London back in the mid 80's when it was just behind Centrepoint.

I was at the counter one day buying something, and noticed a bunch of tickets on the counter. I asked the cashier what they were and he said...

'Oh, apparently it's a free screening of some new sci fi move with that Schwarznegger guy...take one if you want, we can't give them away'.

You have to remember that at that time Arnie was indeed considered a bit of a joke.

But I took one anyway. Went to the screening.

And I can always remember to this day the derisory laughter from the audience.

It was a major west end cinema, a big audience and yet they still thought the whole thing was ridiculous.

It was by no means an instant hit...it was viewed as a cheap, low-budget sci fi movie with a talentless muscleman in the title role.

Like a lot of movies of it's type, it took a while for the respect and admiration to filter through, and home video was a big factor in that - repeat viewings were crucial.

Often makes you wonder what would have happened to some classic modern movies without it...

While not as good as T1 and T2 (T2 is my personal favourite of the three), T3 is by no means a rubbish movie. It was a decent film in it's own right, and definitely doesn't deserve all the hate that is aimed at it.

Quite how the BBFC gave it a 12A rating though is beyond me, it should easily have been a 15 what with the numerous uses of the F word and some scenes of strong violence (the TX ramming her hand through the cops chest and then continuing to drive with her hand protruding through the gaping, bloody hole being a prime example).

I meant the world being blown to crap by Skynet, but I'm guessin gyou already knew that! But then I'd also agree that the end credits were a major gihlight as they were only use in the movie of the classic music. One of T3s biggest let-downs was that it didn't use the musical cues from the predecessors.

PG friendly? Pretty sure T2 was a 15 (which T1 is now, too, considering the BBFC reclassified it for DVD. Guess its not seen to be as violent as it used to be!)

It wasn't exactly a gentle film; lots of blood, men getting shot in front of their kiRAB, Sarah's gentle language, the T-1000 skewering people through their faces.

I thought Linda Hamilton never wanted any part in T3, mainly due to a loyalty to James Cameron.

No disagreement with that. I was disappointed when T3 got a 12A rating, because I expect a certain level of brutality with a Terminator film. Because of that, I was shocked when the T-X put her fist through that cop's gut like that. Waaaaaaay too brutal for a 12A. Should have been a 15.

I remember going into a video shop in 85 and Terminator was playing on their tv screen, it blew me away ..Never liked the other 2 Terminators that much though.
Looking forward to the new one with Christian Bale i'll be going to the cinema to see that.

It did have some chills in it but they turned him into a bit of a joke I thought, I saw it at the cinema when it was first released and it was an amazing blockbuster.

The original won't be beaten, methinks. :)

i pretend t3 doesnt exist its that bad

t1 awesome t2 brilliant

but if they never made anymore terminator films after t1 i would be happy with it

Which one did you think was a bit of a joke, the T-1000 or the T-800?

Obviously, they humanized Arnie's Terminator more, being that he was now the good guy. Personally, I liked the dark humour they went with, with Arnie shooting peoples knee-caps off because John told him he wasn't allowed to kill anyone. The T-1000, however, was an amazing villain. That thing was just nasty and seemed even more unkillable than the T-800 in The Terminator.

One thing I do say as a negative, John Connor was quite annoying at times. His "cool lingo" has badly dated now, too. It's funny how the saviour of humanity always seems to come off as an annoying boy whenever we've seen him on-screen!

Terminator 3 doesn't exist in my eyes. The TV show completely ignores the fact that exists be does a good job in making up for it.

Salvation looks pretty good. Shame I don't have much hope with McG directing it.

T3 has problems, but I still enjoyed it and thought it was a worthwhile sequel. Then again, I also liked Alien 3 :o

I thought Arnie looked completely CGI throughout the whole movie and Nick Stahl was unconvincing. But I do have a soft spot for Claire Danes and Kristanna Loken is OK in my book too.
I'd give T1 10/10 , T2 8/10 , T3 7/10

But all 3 are essentially special effects driven chase movies, so I can't understand the special criticism given to T3. It still ticks the same boxes as the previous two films.

the problem with terminator 3 is that it is less than the sum of its parts. you have all the ingredients, arnie, a decent enough villain, half decent special effects, a not too shabby story (especially the end)

but it lacks that blockbuster, wow factor that james cameron brought to T2, and the sheer brilliance of T1

it just feels........flat

There are more of us than you think.

Big firework display of a movie. Looked good, but nothing of any real substance. Basically, Arnie is a robot babysitter from the future.

Putting whiny American brats into films rarely works out well.

T3 is a quite good film

it needed the storyline, it couldnt just be another fx filled action movie

Sarah Connor had to die at some point, the underlying storyline of the whole thing is that John Connor becomes the leader, not her.
there needed to be a tipping point, where skynet could take over, the machines couldnt just take over by themselves, someone needed to press that button.
