Terminator 2 UK Blu-Ray release

Hey, not that everyone trusts it but play.com have a listing for T2 on Region B Blu-ray for 04/08/08.

It's my all time favourite movie and I already have the US blu-ray import (which isn't region coded) but thats only the Theatrical Cut of the movie. If this one is the director's cut I'll buy YET AGAIN! I'm led to believe that the UK HD-DVD release is the director's cut so holding out for this to be a data transfer of that (and not a data trransfer of the US blu-ray).

Fingers crossed.

Ok just a question, what's the point of buying this on blu-ray when it was never filmed in high-def in the first place?

I'm not being funny but think about it, only movies filmed in high-def will benefit from blu-ray the rest are basically cons

Microsoft actually use a clip of T2 to demonstrate the HD capabilities of Windows Media Player 11, and it really does look amazing in HD (i streamed the clip to my Xbox and watched it on my HDTV for full effect).

35mm Film at resolution has over 4,000 lines, that's at least 4x the quality of Full HD (1080p), films scanned from masters and converted down to Full HD look amazing, I've watched films like Sin City and The Fifth Element in HD and they looked beyond amazing, also the trailer for T2 (Tech Demo from Windows) looks just great. As long as a film is shot on film higher than 16mm stock, it can be transfered to a HD format and look amazing.

Ok, the US Blu-ray I have is not the best quality blu-ray I've got but it's still definitely better than the DVD upscaled on the PS3 which I tried in comparison.*

If people think that pre 21st century movies on blu-ray are a waste of time then my advice is to check out the blu-ray of Life Of Brian.

*Well to tell the truth 'overall' that was the case a couple of scenes actully looked better on DVD but overall the blu-ray out performed.

I'll stick to my tin edition of Terminator 2, not a blu ray person yet and probably never will be until dvRAB die out... and that will not be for a long time.

I was mistaken- the above is.

If you are completely clueless about a subject its best to keep incorrect ill informed technically inaccurate junk to yourself:rolleyes:

35 mm film exceeRAB the quality of current HD standarRAB.

Thats why there are HD discs of films more than 50 years old

Thats how Sky can broadcast on their HD movie channels with films back to the 50's.

Thats how Star Trek TOS made in 1966 is available on HD DVD in a quality that far exceeRAB those later series that were completed on tape like TNG,RAB9 etc

Or perhaps they should read up a bit on HD and 35mm film instead of posting incorrect info.

I wonder how many times we are going to see people asking how its possible for so many HD releases of material that was made before HD:rolleyes:

I got my T2 Bluray for about

There are 2 deleted scenes included as extras on UK and US discs .

The hidden version incorporates these into the film thereby changing the ending too

AFAIK this option is not included on any UK dvd of the film

I would expect the T2 Bluray release to be released by the same company that released it in the UK on dvd - and being as they were not able to offer as good a product as the US dvd I would be surprised if they beat the US BD.

But as we see - doing that wont be hard yet I still cant see it happening.

Its annoying having to keep so many dvd titles just to see the extras not supplied on the BD.

And even in the UK the T2 dvd was loaded with extras

IIRC the Terminator Bluray disc contains the extras from the dvd

As I understand it the movie has different distribution rights in the UK to the US. So I'm hoping that this has to be just a direct 'data transfer' (is that the right term?) of the HD-DVD release, which is the director's cut and has most of the extras that are on the standard DVD, or i am just having wishful thinking..

The third version just adRAB that scene of the T-1000 in john's room finding the letters from Mom. Not really missing that much there

As usual I will be renting this only. Eventually they will release a special edition with both cuts of the film (to be honest I wish Cameron would do a FINAL cut which is basically the theatrical version with SOME of the special edition in there but not all of it, some of the special edition scenes like John teaching the Terminator how to smile are just crap and slow the film right down)
