Tendonitis- please help! Anyone!

I have bad pain in my foot on the outer side by the little nub that sticks out and its swollen. I cant hardly walk on it when it really gets flaring and it'll feel like my foots broken even thou theres no bruises or discoloration much. I am currently on 10mg Vicoden for my back surgery, and my foot is KILLING me even on that med.

I had been bedridden and severely limping on my right leg, and my left side compensated for it and my odd walk/gait severely for 9 months and mainly bedridden. NOW after 2 back surgeries my limp is nearly gone thanks to pain pills and neurontin and surgeries, but now that I am walking 'normal' for the most part, they think (over the phone)I have tendonitis in my LEFT foot *the good side that compensated the limp* and called in steroids for me to take and to wrap it for now and try and stay off my feet (I have my daughters bday coming tomorrow with her friends coming over and a large party sunday I haveto prepare for)

Has anyone had tendonitis? What can I do to make it stop hurting so I can walk on it and prepare for the parties? How long does it take to go away? Is it bad its swelling so much? They said to wait til Tuesday as I have an appt with the dr then for my back, should I insist to see another dr prior since its swollen and hurts so badly?

Thanks for any help, I need answers asap, it HURTS and starting to travel to my ankle and up alittle on my foot. It hurt 3 weeks ago alittle, then I switched shoes figuring since they were the same shoes for 9 months (slip on cuz I cant reach my feet) that they were worn into my limp, but now its worse and back and IDK what to do.

Sorry so long.

Since it is swollen, I would use ice off and on during the day.

Allowing the foot to rest is very important.

I have tendonitis in my shoulder and do use heat and/or ice depending on which one will give relief.

I am not sure whether an Ace bandage wrap would help or not. There is a lot of info on the net regarding tendonitis treatment.

Thanks I tried reading on the net but its not getting me too far, I think its peroneal tendonitis. I did ice it and the swellings gone down but I need to run to so many stores for her birthday and to get ready for tomorrow it's impossible, I'm just going to wrap the heck out of my foot and ankle and hope for the best I need to get alot of things done and bedrest for my foot is not an option even thou I've used all morning to do so.

How long does it take to go away? Is this something that is just going to flare on and off always now or a one time deal that I am putting up with?

even both of my achilles were killing me this morning when I woke up to walk, was aweful then I guess it all stretched out and that pain has subsided even thou my side of my foot is still KILLING on and off, ice did help thou.

Tendonitis in my shoulder has been going on for the past 6 months. Gets a little better, backslides, a little better and is now to the point I think it might give up the ghost only to be back the next day sassing me.

I also get tendonitis in the ankle area off and on and the prickly pains are no fun, no swelling yet to speak of. Sometimes it comes and goes quickly and other times it lingers for a few days or weeks.

You may benefit from gentle stretching of your foot back and forth, point toes down and then up to help stretch the area.

I am on a pred weaning pack now, 4 of the 6 pills for the first day, I have it wrapped real tight to walk on it so far so good til tonite that is then I'm sure I'll be dying again like last nite and yesterday eve.

I try moving my ankle around but to move it outward or to wiggle my piggy toe and next toe to it really hurts down the side of my foot, and my ankle hurts some now too right near and below the bone. How Im going to make it thru 2 parties is beyond me thats for sure. Terrible timing I swear!
Thanks again. I'm due for more ice. Mine pulls hurts and stabs like crazy and needle jabs in there right at that little bump out on your outer foot, in the pics online thats where 2 tendons attach to your foot, just wonderful :(

I goto the dr on Tuesday and he's to look at it while I go to get my back rechecked from my surgery, but if it hurts just as much tonight or worse- definitly if its even worse I gotta hit the ER cuz I know I cant take worse than last nite. I'm hoping that pred weaning pack helps ASAP for tonight and how bad both achilles and the side of my foot hurt this morning.

Here are things I found to help.

Stop the activity that is causing the pain
Apply R.I.C.E (rest, ice, compression, elevation)

Take anti-inflammatory medication (if needed)
Ease back into the activity slowly

Hope this helps.

Rosepetal, I've suffered from chronic tendinitis for over 30 years and no one knows why. But I've become a pro at treating it. I know that exact tendon.

Ssince ice is not working, try heat. Mine respond much better to heat after the first day or 2. No anti-inflammatories as suggested elsewhere...you're already on the strongest anti-inflammatory there is....prednisone. Anything more and you'll give yourself an ulcer. Your doc could inject cortisone directly into the tendon and that may work better. You need to not only rest it but not move it. If your going to wrap your foot, do so in a way that makes you not move your foot at all. I have special "cast" called a Cam Walker that I use for the Achilles when it flares but it works well for the peroneal too. Adjustable angles for the ankle and lots of velcro so you can remove it.

But since no one has actually seen your ankle, a proper diagnosis is the first thing. Have it looked at and make sure that's what it is. You just came off of back surgery so it could be something else.....like pain from swelling in your back.

Good luck and let us know how you're doing. I have lots of tricks for tendinitis.

gentle hugs.............Jenny

Thanks Jenny, I dont see my doc til Tuesday, hes a spine surgeon but was going to look at my foot and possibly take an xray if needed. I told them where it hurts and swells and they said poss tendonitis. I figure he's got to see tons of limping people with severe sciatica who over compensate. I rested it as much as I could today, but still cant bend it outward due to severe pain, the swellings not much tonight compared to last nite thankfully even tho it hurts when I take some steps to walk not every step at least. Last nite in the store I wouldn't even walk down the food aisles I sent my SO and stood there like a flamingo on one leg until my bad leg couldn't take holding me up as its still weak. This morning both achilles were killing me to take every step til they loosened up after an hr or so but the side of the foot ankle remained.

Ice helped with the swelling at least, but not the pain, it actually hurts more with the ice on it and when its thawing out from the ice. I dont ice things much I HATE COLD WITH A PASSION! :) I iced my back when I HAD to after my surgeries, but that was it.

Maybe the first 20mg of pred started to help already, who knows, I'm usedto it for my back so I'm not sure. I hope it holds out thru the parties tomorrow and Sunday thats for sure. The other leg limp is now throwing out and hurting my back ALOT too. Ugk.

If it's not one thing going on with me it's another. Will see how it goes over the next day or 2 and post back. Thanks again.
