In the second post of this thread are ten tips (each with its own video) from BellTV that can help BellTV customers fix many common problems associated with their BellTV or ExpressVu receivers once they have been installed.

Hopefully these tips can help some of our members from having to make a time consuming call to customer support.

These tips assume your system was properly installed and working and has suddenly begun having problems

If you are having problems with installation or getting started with various ExpressVu receivers then check out these great threads.

1) Reboot your system (Video demo)
If your receiver is not working properly, try holding down the POWER button on the front of your receiver for 5 to 8 seconds. This resets the device and usually resolves most of the problems related to the receiver.

2) Troubleshooting your remote (Video demo)
You may have pressed the TV button on your remote control by mistake and are now controlling the TV instead of the satellite receiver.
Change your TV to channel 3 or 4 or press the TV/Video button on your remote control until you get the picture back. Then, press the SAT button to change satellite channels on your receiver.

3) Keep it connected (Video demo)
Keep your receiver connected to a satellite feed and power supply at all times to keep your programming current.

4) Turn it off (Video demo)
Turn off your receiver when you're not using it. This will keep your software and Electronic Programming Guide information current.

5) Restoring a lost signal (Video demo)
Your signal can be temporarily lost because of heavy cloud cover, snow or rain. In winter, check if you have an accumulation of snow on your dish. Springtime brings leaves on trees. If you find your satellite signal disappears from time to time, it could be a sign that a growing tree has blocked your dish's access to the satellite signal.

6) Fixing audio problems (Video demo)
If you've lost audio on a particular channel, check to see if you have the same problem with other channels. If other channels have also lost audio, reset your receiver by holding the power button for 5 to 8 seconds.

7) Dodging black-outs (Video demo)
If you find a sporting event blacked out on your system, check the program description by pressing INFO to see if the event is available on another channel.

8) Control your remote (Video demo)
Your remote can be programmed to turn your system on and off, control the volume on your TV set, switch between satellite, VCR/DVD or home theatre at the press of a button on a single remote.

9) Let your equipment breathe (Video demo)
Keep your receiver well ventilated. If packed into a small, enclosed space, it could overheat and cause the unit to malfunction. Leave approximately 3 to 5 inches above the receiver's grill.

10) Wiring your system (Video demo)
If you moved or disconnected your satellite receiver lately, make sure all the wires at the back of your audio visual equipment are attached properly and are firmly in place. Also, make sure the cable from the satellite feed is connected to SATELLITE IN and not to TV ANTENNA/CABLE IN.

For best picture quality on standard definition receivers, be sure the S-video connection on your receiver is connected to your television.
