Not sure about ibuprofen as i'm allergic to it, so never tried. could help I'm sure.
I take Acupan for nerve pain in my legs, which helps both fibromyalgian and the nueralgia also, but its basically just a painkiller that works in a slightly different way. Problem with it is that it tends to shut your brain off lol. My partner calls them my 'dumdum tabs'
I also found that ice does sometimes work, but for some it will make it worse so be careful of using it. try it once and dont use again if it gets worse at all.
There are ways of dealing with pain that is more phycological that physical though, I do a sort of meditation at times. lay back and picture a nice pond with waterfall, thick forest all round, herd of unicorn occasionally

you need to 'feel' the atmosphere though for it to work. distraction therapy i suppose.
Trick to it is finding your 'pain free place' to go to. different for everyone, yours could be a beach, or maybe a trout stream, mountain top etc. once you find it though it does tend to work. keep the same picture all the time so its easy to 'get there' again and you can form the image easily when your being distracted by pain. To start off you need to control breathing, conciously breath in, then out, in, out etc. harder that it seems. then form pictures one part at a time, add the pond first, then waterfall, then put in the trees. the concentration of building the picture slowly is part of how it works, and once you can do that you got it cracked. I dont do the whole sitting up in lotus potision etc. just lay back on the bed and breath. Your not meditating in the true sense of hte word, just a relaxion aid really. Cant harm for you to try it though.
