Recently, my temperature gauge on an automatic 94 Acura Integra has acted like this: while driving on the highway, it stays right at the mid point. Then, when I drive in the city, and especially when I stop, it rises to the hot zone. It will come down a bit when I drive, but go back up when stopped again. Now, even more recently, that same fluctuation has occurred randomly even while I'm driving at a constant speed and flat surface on the highway. It doesn't go to the cool side. The car hasn't overheated yet (it's been about 2 weeks since this started happening). Coolant levels appear to be just fine.
I have checked online, and it appears there are several reasons why this might happen, but no concrete answer. Any suggestions on what it is, and a good procedure to go about to get it checked so that I don't end up taking it to a mechanic who will replace something that doesn't fix the issue?
I know nothing about cars, so I won't be attempting to fix it at all myself. Thanks.
