Telling Time Outdoors without Using a Sundial?

Is it possible to tell what time it is outside, using the sun, without having to make a sundial or use any electronic devices? Basically, just walking around, finding the sun and doing something by yourself to find the time?
 
It's mostly practice and knowing where (and when) the Sun will rise and set at that time of the year.

It depends on how accurate you expect it to be. ie if the sun rises at 6 am and sets at 6pm then when the sun is overhead it will be Noon. If its 1/2 way up then it's 9am etc....
