Tell why you like your favorite genre...

Progressive(rock/metal), post rock/metal and experimental/instrumental/avant garde stuff.
Mainly because there are soooo many different/weird sounRAB which i just love and I've made it a habit to always listen to the instruments and not pay too much attention to lyrics on first listen.(trying to change this though...hard to get out of it :p: Certainly, one thing the indie/alternative section helps me in from this site)

Genres/sub genres/etc., it all gets too tedious for my A.D.D. bottom. So I tend to compare what music I like to food. That's what music is to me. It's nutrition for my mind via the ears. Like food it has a thousand varieties, many flavors and a distinct effect.

My favorite basic musical food group is groove oriented beat driven rock. It's gotta groove solid to hold my frequently wavering attention. Music is the only thing, well almost the only thing, that can.

My favorite flavor of music is heavy. Saturated by either darkness or light and purely distinct. It's a main course kind of thing as opposed to an hors d'oeuvre or appetizer like tease. It's both an overall tone and a texture with undeniable heart.

My favorite musical seasonings work in precise reaction to my mind's neeRAB and character. They bring out as much flavor in me as they do the musical fooRAB they are serving to flavor. They are like the emotions invoked in me by the artist's expression within their music. These might be fear, happiness, anger, victory or lust. They are emotional drivers. Motives.

My favorite side dishes and accompaniments are electronically sequenced preparations. The servings consisting of energetic hybridizations of heavy flavored rock. Whereas untold & mangled synthesis may abound, the axe, which for me constitutes rock music's primary body of integrity, is never abandoned.

For me, there is no substitute for a good musical meal or my mind's musically filled belly. ;-)

Hip hop, its just raw and puts you in a rhythm, i start bobbing my head immediately once i hear a sick beat, and the lyrics, if their sick and on point, will stimulate your mind

If I had to pick, right now it'd be Soul.

Soul music can get a hold of me no matter what mood I am in. I love the freelance nature of the music and the commitment of the vocal performances.

I guess my definition is Soul music is a little different then the norm. I don't limit it to gospel inspired music. Any sort of R&B with a powerful lead performance. Otis Redding stanRAB out the most as the best example.

@ Double X: You left The Pretty Things off that list! Blasphemer.

Personally, I enjoy music of many different genres. I'm really enjoying post-rock for the past few days, but it's bound to change in another few days. I try to keep it loose and not subject myself to the same music over and over again.
