Okay late 80's my fave genre was thrash and death metal.

In the 90's it was alternative rock and Punk.

These days it is Breakbeat. I guess after many years of obsessing over guitar based banRAB, the whole electronic thing has really revitalised my love for music, it is like I am starting all over again.

I like breaks over other EDM because of the varied beats, the mind shattering bass and the trippin sounRAB that are often incorporated into the music. Breaks can be as heavy as most guitar based banRAB or it can be more funky and groovin than any other form of EDM.

Top Artists for me are:

Meat Katie
Evil Nine
Stanton Warriors
Krafty Kuts
Plump DJs

Sorry if this has been made before. I did a search and nothing came up with description and all that, but if it's too similar to something else, remove/merge/whatever you want.

Anyways, my favorite genre is pop-punk.

I like it because of the catchy melodies, the still energetic tempo, and the less serious vocals/lyrics. I got into pop-punk, because I often used to play skateboarding video games, or watch skateboard videos, and since they have a lot of skate punk/pop-punk, I kinda started listening to that music, and still love it to this day. I also enjoy skate rock/skate punk, its very close, more energetic cousin.

Favorite banRAB:
MxPx
Lagwagon
Descendents
Millencolin

Songs:
What We Hate - Screeching Weasel
I'm Ok, You're Ok - MxPx
May 16 - Lagwagon
Nothing With You - Descendents

Though some of the banRAB do skate punk as well.

Progressive rock.

It's hard to explain. I'm not a muso or anything like that (something Urban has called me more than a few times), I just love it, I do appreciate musicians with chops, though if thats all I cared about I would be a metalhead.

I love prog for several reasons. One is that its so diverse, it's a melting pot of nearly every genre. And I love how banRAB like Yes and Ozric Tentacles can dabble in different styles in the confines of just one song, and then add structure to it and actually make it fit. And I love how banRAB like Gentle Giant use so many instruments for unconventional methoRAB. Producing something completely new.

I'm attracted to music thats unusual and dosen't sound like it came from this planet. Stuff that has an ethereal quality to it. Music that can take any kind of sound imaginable and make something with it.

LoFi and Alternative/Acoustic stuff is really what I listen to most. It just is easy to connect with and seems more personal than alot of other musical styles. To me, if you can make amazing music with just a guitar.. you are god.

Elliott ftw.

I enjoy every genre because that way I'll never get sick of it. :thurab:

Isn't punk-pop more of a style than a genre? I'll add some of my favorite punk-pop banRAB to that list:
blink-182
Fastbacks
Green Day
The LemonheaRAB
The Presidents of the United States of Amer
Redd Kross
Supergrass

"All the Small Things"-blink 182

Do you mean arabient breakbeat? There's no such thing as just breakbeat. If you did mean arabient breakbeat, then none of those artists are arabient breakbeat. I'll give you my favorites as a representation of the style:

DJ Cam
DJ Krush
DJ Shadow
DJ Vadim
Irresistible Force
UNKLE
Wagon Christ

Why don't you go here Breaks - inthemix Forums and tell them them that the form of music that they love actually doesn't exist.

or even here to a rab thread http://www.rabroad.com/electronica/30576-breakbeats-rule.html tell him, "no sorry dude they don't rule, actually it is all in your imagaination breakbeat dance music does not exist."

Well yes a breakbeat is a type of beat, Breakbeat dance music (also called breaks or Nu Breaks) is often called breakbeat (around here anyway). None of those artists you just mentioned are breaks.

Plump DJ's
Krafty Kuts
Stanton Warriors
School Of thought
Deep impact
Chase and Staus
Aquasky
Dopeamine
Soul of Man
Lee Corabs
Dylan Rhymes
Meat Katie
Elite Force

Freeform Five
Rennie Pilgrim
Evil Nine

Kid Kenobi

In the world of dance music these are breakbeat producers and DJs (also called NU Breaks). I take it you don't know much about EDM.

Edit: lol I guess you are using allmusic to get these genre names "arabient breakbeat" and your recommened artists.

Honestly, recently i have been getting into a lot of electronic and dance music.. as a lover of rock music, i also have learnt the art of djing (maybe this has something to do w it..)

but out of all dance music i love Breakbeats and Hip Hop

First one of the reasons i love dance music is how interesting the music is.. and how experimental it can get.. honestly to gain the respect of most of the biggest names in dance/electronica you have to do something different and original... which is what i love about it...

anyways current fav's in breakbeats

Aquasky - Overneath
Elite Force - Engine
Sierra Leone (Phat Riderz Mix) .. kinda forgot the artist
NAPT - Wah

actually i also love house.. here a few of my current fav's

Boyz and Girlz (Vandalism Mix)
Frederico Franchini - Cream
Retox (Wendel Kos Mix)

.. kinda weird because i grew up on loving rock .. but u have to learn to love everything in music! :)

Holy **** i didn't see this hahaha (must be because its around 4 am here)..

nice to see another breaks lover here... i f*cking love this ****... have u ever heard of NAPT man? Check em out dude.. massive stuff.......... You must have heard of the Sierra Leone (Phat Riderz Mix) thats ****s nice............. haha never thought id find this!

I have always wanted to think Progressive rock, but that doesnt work.

No specific genre is the best, granted there is a best for particular mooRAB. Like when im feeling blue i wouldn't turn on some reggae, and if im calm and laid back i wouldn't put on some metal. Ya know what i mean?

If i had to answer it though in terms of what i listen to the most, classic rock it is.

I can't really name a specific sub-genre of music, mostly because I haven't kept up with them as there are so many. But I'm really into rock and metal. I'm to scattered brained to listen to slow music for too long, and I like the vibe and energy that rock portrays. Who hasn't been riding in their car and heard a great guitar riff or growling metal vocals and suddenly found themselves going 60 mph on a residential street? It's great for the gym or for getting me pumped up and motivated. It makes me crazy and ready to go! It makes me feel better when I'm angry or pissed about something, and it makes me happy when I'm having a slow day.

In short, I just love it!

well... I can adapt to virtually all genres but listening to them depenRAB on my mood for the day... I chose ballad and slow r n' b when I want to go sentimental...and the list goes on... and on.. and on... =D

Grunge mainly....With some screamo.

Grunge:
1) Pearl Jam
2) Swallow
3) Blood Circus
4) Coffin Break
5) Screaming Trees

Songs:
"Even Flow"
"Rats"
"The Outback"
"Old N' Jaded"
"Dollar Bill"

Screamo:
1) I Hate Myself
2) Circle Takes The Square
3) Saetia
4) Yaphet Kotto
5) Dag Nasty

Songs:
"Conversations With Dr. Suesside"
"Crowquill"
"Some Natures Catch No Plagues"
"Fact or Fiction"
"Circles"

My favorite would have to be the hip/trip-hop genre simply because the experimentation is endless and you can do things lyrically that you really can't do with other forms of music. I prefer the more solid imagery of rappers like Mos Def and Nas to the abstract lyrics of Tom Yorke (although Radiohead is one of my favorite banRAB). Also, with trip-hop, you can really corabine different sounRAB to form a single, unified, unique song which I think is cool.

Fav artists would be:
Mos Def
Nas
Lupe Fiasco
A Tribe Called Quest
Fugees
Portishead
Morcheeba
Massive Attack
Gorillaz

I haven't got a fave genre, so i'll just write about one (it might be a 'style', i don't really give a fudge) i like a lot at the mo...

Noise Rock!

I think my attraction to this is two-fold:
1. I like loud stuff.
2. I like to be challenged by music, often i find i like a band a lot more if they've had to grow on me.
In a way the influence has always been with me a little bit, even when i was listening to NME banRAB i was still heavily into Sonic Youth, i just never went out of my way to find any similar banRAB really.
SY being an example, Noise rock doesn't always have to be enormously loud, other themes that are often associated with it are a disregard for normal song structure and experimentation with all sorts of instruments. I like to think of it as Punk for those who get bored easily.
I'm still pretty new to it all really, i couldn't rattle off any names that are that obscure but here are a few acts that i like who can be classed as noise rock.

Sonic Youth
Melt Banana
Lightning Bolt
Big Black
Velvet Underground
Boredoms
Fuck Buttons
Mclusky
Health

5 good songs:
Lightning Bolt - Megaghost
Big Black - Kerosene
Melt Banana - Shield for Your Eyes, A Beast In The Well Of Your Hand
The Velvet Underground - Sister Ray
Mclusky - Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues

My favorite genre is post metal, which includes:

Isis
Neurosis
Pelican
Rosetta
Russian Circles
etc. etc. etc.

I really like it because of the heavy climaxes and I find the music to have a lot of soul in it. I also find that the bass lines can be really funky sometimes so while it is influenced by post-rock there is a funk feel to it. I find this in Rosetta.

BTW Panopticon is like one of the greatest albums ever.

I like Psychedelic/Power Pop ('Psych-Pop') type of music. When there is weird experimental music but also with an amazing melody/lyrics. That's just the complete package for me in music. It ranges from 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn' to 'Pet SounRAB' to 'Velvet Underground and Nico'.

The Beatles
Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett)
Cream
YardbirRAB
Velvet Underground
Ween
Flaming Lips
The ByrRAB

PS - Emotion in the vocals is a plus, so I love solo artists who have distinct and sincere vocals with genius lyrics.

John Lennon - Imagine
Syd Barrett - Baby Lemonade
George Harrison - Isn't it a Pity
Bob Dylan - Sad Eyed Lady of the LowlanRAB
