Telemarketing scammers suck

Yes, they do, but you are in charge.

Broad generalization here, forgive me:

Why are all the men replying with ingenious schemes for "getting even"
with telemarketers who, after all, are just doing the job they are paid
for? You all sound like my husband who keeps them on the phone forever
with one lame question after another.

Most of the women who have posted here have echoed my "JUST HANG UP."
advice. I guess we don't have to prove out superiority by challenging
a stranger to a battle of wits.

Maybe because THEY wasted MY time making a call to ME on MY phone, which I
pay for MY convenience, NOT for THEIR convenience.

THEY invaded MY privacy in MY home.

Besides, no one in their right mind would buy anything from a spammer on the
internet, and telemarketers are exactly the same type of people as those who
Spam their products in e-mail or newsgroups.

The DNC has specific language about businesses maintaining their own

The DNC has actually worked pretty well for us. With the notable
exception of the period when that sleezy extended car warranty outfit
from the Midwest ignored the DNC list calls went from 5/night to maybe
1/year.

Burglars and muggers are just trying to make a living too.

The way I figure it is that if they are going to continue to call me I
might as well have some fun with them. If I can keep them on the phone I
am saving someone else from being hassled.

I get a phone call once a year from the firefighters association or
something to that effect. They're wanting a donation to buy toys for
kids and this donation comes with 'free' tickets to some rock concert
or whatever. The caller, which is always a man, is soooo polite and
solicitous while going through their spiel. Once I tell them I don't
do business over the phone and especially with an entity I've never
heard of that sugary tone becomes a bit testy and I'm wished a curt
thank you and have a good day. Very syrupy I reply that I will and
coo 'thank you.'

You have NO idea what it took to get that registry up and running by the

Actually the Salvation Army is highly rated for effectiveness in use of
donations. I can't say I have ever seen them blocking doorways but you
do have to walk past then as they wish you Merry Christmas.

Maybe that person is allergic to helping others or belongs to the speech
police and is offended if someone expresses holiday greetings in public?

"I just happened to have a tuning fork in my pocket, so..." LOL!

What frequency do you think would work best, C above Middle C, or A440,
or...? It has to be something that will get thru the telephone
bandwidth filters (Middle C is too low)

What bugs me is that it exempts political calls, too. On this past
election day, I was getting calls all through the actual day. This was
new. They usually just called prior to election day, but this year there
were frantic calls saying if I hadn't already voted, to hurry in because
my vote was needed. They weren't even recordings!

My tuning fork was a 440 A. I have no idea what it actually did to the

and had been for some time. After we tried the tuning fork
