"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles Forever" DVD Talkback (Spoilers)

I just went to Wal-Mart today, and my local store does have the DVD. I guess that's more proof that the availability depends on where you live, and not what store you go to. I won't be buying it though, as I've already seen the edited version twice. If they ever release a special edition with the original widescreen format, a few decent special features, and the extra minutes that were cut out, I'll be sure to pick it up, but the likelyhood of that happening seems close to zero.

Not that this suprises me though. With Nickeloden set to produce their own TMNT show, practically all of their Ninja Turtles budget is most likely going to that. TMNT2K3 wasn't (and never really will be) their show, and thus the executives will refuse to let it overshadow the new series. The least we can hope for is, if they don't do anything more with 2K3, they will at least put all of the episodes and shorts online. But I honestly doubt if even that will happen. :(

Yes, but to Viacom, it's a brand new property.

To be fair, the franchise is in sort of a dark period right now...for the first time since the late 90's, there is literally nothing new being released for it (not even new toys!), so it's currently at a very low point. Honestly, thinking about it like that, I actually don't entirely blame them for releasing this barebones disappointment (but they shouldn't have outright ignored the guy who gave them the 4Kids-made poster).

Maybe when the property gets back on its feet, they can try this again...

I gave this 2 stars, mostly because of how bare bones the whole thing is. Basically all I got was the menu, play movie, and chapter select. Though the good thing about it is, I was able to see the credits for it without being squatched to the bottom of the TV screen, so I guess that counts as an extra for me. I do think that this was one of the best things to come out on TV, and I like the fact that I can own a physical copy of it. Another plus for the DVD is I liked the songs in the credits. I wasn't able to get around to watching the stream online to see the differences between the 4kids airing/DVD version and online, though I do hope it comes out.

2 1/2 stars for me.

The disc is strictly no-frills, no extras or bonus features (a behind-the-scenes look featuring the voice actors would have been nice), but I loved the story, so I won't complain much.

I'm not normally big on alternate universes and crossover stories, but this, the Justice League episode "A Better World" and the Futurama episode "The Farnsworth Parabox" are the exceptions. Seeing the 2K3 Turtle cast interact with the 1987 cast was a geek's dream come true.

I just got it from Amazon, and yeah, it's the letterboxed full-screen, cut up TV version. The video quality isn't bad at all, but it's a pain to watch on a widescreen laptop with no zoom feature. The credits were also nice the have; they had the characters in very dynamic black silhouettes, though the animation was mostly key frames, so it wasn't smooth or anything. But still, that was one good thing it gave us, the other being the ending tagline with all the turtles shouting "I love being a turtle!" over the 25th anniversary logo.

Of course, the lack of those missing scenes is what really brings it down, especially ones near the climax. But still I say, if you have 12 bucks to spare, please show this movie a little support.
