Good movie, awful DVD, apparently.

With the DC Universe movies, I've gotten so accustomed to seeing two different versions of the dvd release. So when I was at the store, I found myself looking for the two disk special edition.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

If only, if only.

Wal-Mart officially sucks, they aren't carrying this in-store apparently, so I won't be able to snag this till I can make another online order probably. Fail!

Hard to say, I couldn't really check personally since Wal-Mart is the only major store in my town. According to a post on Technodrome Forums though -

So, on top of this being a subpar release, it's gonna be nigh impossible to get offline? I mean, I know this is the 2010 and everyone and their grandma orders online, but C'MON! I like ordering online only BECAUSE of stuff like this, where I can't get it in person. If I have the option, nine times out of ten I prefer to purchase in person.

Really? Well crap! It's not Wal-Mart then, it's small town suckiness. Why does it always strike me so...

I mean, it's not even that it wasn't out on the stands yet (my Wal-Mart sometimes takes till Wednesday to have everything out...), but that there wasn't even a place for it on the DVD stands. Worst part of it is, I wouldn't doubt they do have it in the back of the store and just never put it out. They did that to me for Bleach movie 2 I know for a fact, cuz I saw the damned thing in the box, and they wouldn't sell it to me cuz they 'didn't know if it was supposed to be out yet'. This was on the release day of it.

I went to Best Buy today to capitalize on that Futurama blu-ray sale and I didn't see Turtles Forever anywhere. Didn't see it at Target either.

What can we do to get Nick to release the full version of this movie in widescreen?

I don't even care about the lack of special features or interviews, I just want the complete damn movie.

How could they do this? What company knowingly releases an edited version of a movie? And yes, they DO know there is a complete version, before anyone asks.

Just interrupting briefly to note that you could win a copy of Tom & Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes for free and everything through our giveaway. It's just like ordering on-line, except with a wonderful bit of randomness thrown into it.

Sorry. Plug over. That being said, I've noticed that DVD selections at the local big box stores have been getting weirder lately. My local Target didn't seem to have the new Brave & the Bold DVD, or the TMNT: Turtles Forever disc when I'd have thought both were a sure thing. I'm lucky that my local Best Buy happens to be one of the bigger ones (they kept the bulk of their anime section, for instance), but they've been cutting down on the titles they carry for some time.

DVD releases like this just scream pirate me instead of purchasing. I won't be buying this trash and didn't buy the mishandled season sets either. I just don't buy barebones DVDs (Shutter Island and Avatar).

If the company wants my money they have to earn it. I loved the movie itself and watched it five times because I recorded it. But these barebones releases have to stop.

Yo bro. i remember you from the technodrome forums. So you're saying they DO knows a complete version? well then y didnt they release that version? honestly what were they thinking? one more question. do you think they ever will release the uncut version?

I know I'm not CyberCubed, but I'll step in and answer this.

It was mentioned before that one of the people in charge of this movie went to Viacom, informed them of the full version, and even gave them a copy of that poster 4Kids had made for the one-night-only theatrical release that got cancelled. They ignored him.

Because Viacom will always be Viacom.

When it comes to animation DVDs, unless it's some big-name title like Spongebob or Avatar: TLA (and...really only those), they will almost always aim these DVDs at soccer moms who go looking in the DVD aisle for something cheap to give to their kid. Such DVDs require absolutely no effort.

We. Don't. Know.

Until further notice, we can only assume that there will never be an uncut release and this is the "best" we're ever going to get. In a best case senario, an uncut version will be released just in time for the next theatrical movie (and if they do this, I'll take back anything bad I'm currently saying about Viacom concerning this release). But, in that senario, we'll still have to wait another year and a half before such a release happens.

I'm going to wait, obviously. I already watched this 3 times back in 2009, so that's enough for now.

No reason to waste money. I'll buy the uncut version if/when it comes.

Yeah, at the moment, I'll probably wait as well (I already recorded it when it first aired, and I'll likely record it two more times this weekend to archive the final 4Kids airing and the first Nickelodeon airing). Seeing as there's absolutely no difference in the TV airing and this DVD (besides obviously slightly-higher quality), there's no reason to spend money on it full-price.

However, I'm almost absolutely sure it'll fall into Wal-Mart's $5 bin by November, so I'll fish it out at that point.

But, have they been as profitable as Spongebob in the last 7-10 years? Has TMNT made them oodles and boodles of cash? Also why should they go all out for an untested franchise (For them that is)?

You check WalMart? My local one had plenty of copies on both DVD and Blu.

No luck for Turtles Forever, though. I'll need to check elsewhere for that if I decide to crack down and buy it. I'll probably stick to my instincts and skip it though, like i did with the recent Looney Tunes DVDs,
