"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Complete Season Eight" DVD Talkback (Spoilers)

I'm surprised that nearly 20 years later, there are still some people who never sat down and watched through B:TAS, especially with how much praise it gets.

Its understandable that new younger generation of kids never saw it because they're too young, but I imagine most cartoon (or action cartoon) fans are at least familiar with the impact B:TAS made on the way superhero cartoons were made.

Season 8 of TMNT aired in 1994, B:TAS was in the height of its popularity at this time, and impacted TMNT which was losing in ratings to Power Rangers at the time.

I have volumes 1-6, I still need v7 and I will be picking up v8 probably the same day I buy volume 7. I am in the camp that prefer's the original cartoon to the early 00's relaunch, there was just something magical about it and the overall style of the show was just greatness :)

...There's a thing called researching what you're buying.

There is no volume 7, and this is not volume 8. Volumes 1-6 cover seasons 1-3, and starting with season 4 they switched to boxsets.

So, if you only have volumes 1-6, you're missing seasons 4, 5, 6, and 7. I wouldn't recommend buying this unless you own those seasons.

I don't think TMNT and Power Rangers even aired around the same time back in 1994. I suppose they were both on Saturday mornings. Where they truely competed was in the toy isle.

I wouldn't say this takes much influence from Batman: TAS infact I'd say if anything it takes influence from 90s X-Men but even then it's far too laughable to be comparable to either Batman or X-Men of the 90s. I enjoy it for what it is, a super hero satire that usually doesn't take itself too seriously. The only time taking itself seriously worked was in the first season because those episodes were written in a matter that kept them from feeling so melodramatic.

I agree with Ed's review though I highly recommend that he check out the first season and possibly the second season if he want's to see some good old skool TMNT. And if he hasn't watched the 4kids show, DO IT but you might want to stop when you get to Fast Forward.

On the topic of a season 9 release. They MIGHT get that out before Christmas and get the final season (and hopefully the remaining skipped episodes) out in time for the begining of 2010 so the remaining seasons are out before the 26th anniversary of TMNT. Or they might just keep up with the usual pace of about 6 months between seasons.

Honestly with how 9 and 10 connect I'd like to see them release both in one set along with the skipped episodes. That'd be less than 20 episodes in a set right? Maybe I'm mis-counting how many skipped episodes there were.

Yeah, there'd be 19 episodes in such a set (16 from the final two seasons and 3 skipped episodes), which wouldn't be much different than the seasons 5 and 6 sets.
