Teen Driver: Smart ForTwo vs Honda Civic?

Hey. I'm about to get my license soon and I was wondering which car would be the right choice for me: the civic or the fortwo.
EVERYONE seems to recommend the civic for teens, but I have yet to hear anything about the smart fortwo.

Here are the things I'm looking for in a car:
Affordability
-Used car price
-cost of repairs
-gas
Comfort
-spacious? --I want four seats to ride with friends =/
Safety
-If I crash, will I be safe?
-Will the car be recognizable?

I live in a fairly large city with an estimate of 180k citizens. And I plan on using this car until I'm like 25. But definitely until I get out of college.

I'm looking at the 2003 Honda Civic, not too sure about the fortwo's year.

buy the civic man the fortwo f is only 2 not four its small dangerous and way under powred the honda civic is one of the best cars in the world they last for ever get one
 
I say civic if u want a 2 seater get a coupe like Lx Ex or Si models
But if u want or think ull start a family get a Lx or ex 4door

I say the civic will b
Affordable
Low cost used try craiglist
repair cheap as hell
Gas u get great from 25-30 mpg
4 door will b enough for 4 adults or 2 adults 3kids in back
Safety they are 4out 5 star
if U crash yes it has airbags lol
Recognized depends what u do to it if u leave it stock then ill look stock if u tune it up ull b able to tell rims a;ways give the cars that are having parts added to it away lol

I say look into the 00-05 Civic Ex 4dr
or Acura Integra 94-01 try finding a cheap GSR
