Teaching a 5 year old to ride a bike?

How long does it usually take before they catch on.
I feel like I'm doing something wrong.
I hold the seat of the bike while he rides...very unbalance might I add...lol.
He is trying so hard but getting frustrated that he still can't do it on his own.
Any tips or experiences would be very helpfull thank you.

Hold on to the back of his seat for a minute and
then slightly ease up but don't let him know that
you are letting go, pretend that you are still holding.
Make sure you let him practice in a yard or grassy
area so he won't skin up his knees and elbows :)
Good Luck!

Tell him if he doesn't learn than you'll beat him like a redheaded stepchild.

I have heard a good way to teach kids balance is to take the pedals off of the bicycle and lower the seat so their feet can touch the ground. They sell bicycles specifically designed without pedals but the same results can be had with a wrench.

I haven't tried this with my daughters yet as one already knows how to ride and the other is still too young. Good luck!

get him a scooter. it helps them learn to balance better. it worked for me when i was a kid and my dad was about ready to give up, and every other parent we've told to try this. they will be riding in less then a week. from what i've heard.

Well im alot younger than you are but ive done this before with my little brother when i did it he get mad and hit me cause he said i didnt do it right =S

Anyways i held the seat while he petaled at a pace and then after afew minutes i let go of him to see if he would fall and he didnt but i think you should make sure that he is steering correctly
