yet another filler ep.
Movie genre:
The disaster movie genre was quite big in the 70s, giving us such films as "Airport" (which "Airplane!" is a parody of) and "The Posiedon Adventure" (loosely used as the basis of the drowning challenge).
Comments:
- Back to lousy TDI-era cuisine.... goody.
- Also the return of LeShawna's Afro (plus her getting busted for her fake-crying).
- Yep, Chris *does* have his limits--- when his career (and getting sued) are at stake. ;-)
- Agree with Izzy (who seemed one of the *more* semi-sane/smart ones on her team this episode) re: Beth's "boyfriend"...
- Smart of them to turn down the "prize" for chips and soda.
Old-but-amusing Cartoon Gags:
- That stretching noise when Beth tries to to pull Owen out of the hole.
- The obstacle course/stuff thrown at the contestants felt a bit reminiscent of "American Gladiators" (the mid-90s syndicated program featuring contestants versus buff steroid-ish looking "Gladiators"), which has been parodied in a few cartoons (like Animaniacs). It also reminded me of popular 80s video game "Donkey Kong"...
Canadianisms:
- British Columbia is Canada's westernmost province, located on the Pacific Ocean coast and directly above/bordering Washington state on the US side of the border. Its biggest city is Vancouver (a shot of which is shown in the episode's "prize"), a large city several hours north of Seattle, and the home of the 2010 Winter Olympics next year (so we'll be hearing plenty more about Vancouver toward the end of the year/early next year).
- Vancouver Island is located off the coast of British Columbia---a large island that borders the US as well. Features include a lumber industry and tourism. The Wikipedia article is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vancouver_island (yes, it was formed from some volcanic activity millions of years ago).
Next week:
No idea, but sure it'll be entertaining... see you then...
