Taxes - If I have expenses this year on my new business, can I report them next year?

I am opening a new business and have a great deal of expenses out of pocket like office supplies and orders.
It seems that due to delays I will launch the official opening in 2010 instead of this year.
Will I be able to declare my expenses in 2010 instead? I am not going to have enough income this year (probably) to write them off.
 
These are startup expenses and cannot be deducted until you actually open for business. There is a limit to how much you can deduct at once, the rest would be amortized.

Please do yourself a favor and hire someone to do your taxes next year so that you get off on the right foot.
