Premiere Date: June or September 2010 (France)

Moonscoop, a French animation company best known for shows such as Code Lyoko and Growing Up Creepie has produced a new series based off of a series of French novels, "Tara Duncan". These books seem to have been a success in France, and are apparently going to be released in English in the USA in Spring 2010. Tara Duncan is based on a the best-selling book by Sophie Audouin-Mamikornian about a young girl who discovers that she has special powers?and can find fates as a sortceliere. Described as ?Harry Potter?s little French sister,? Tara Duncan?s special mix of adventure, humor and magic, should lend itself quite well to animation.

Taffy/Moonscoop posted a trailer on their Youtube account:

English: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJK6yMyFJog

This is the site for the books, in French.

The series is apparently being released in France in the Fall, and it's unknown if it will air in the USA.

From the sound of the English trailer, It seems like Sharon Mann (voice of Aelita in Code Lyoko) might voice Tara.

In terms of an American release, the show would be a good way to promote the books being released. My guess for a broadcaster is Cartoon Network.

Well, Discuss away.

You know, I really hope the actual series has, you know...actual animation. Aside from that, there really isn't enough to think of it as anything other than another "high schooler fights evil" show. What's the hook?

I'd expect so.

A rough translation of the French Wikipedia page for the books doesn't really show much about the plot, but it seems from what I could gather that the main character is a witch.

Possibly.

The series has apparently already been produced, so hopefully we'll see an English dub possibly in early 2010 (my best guess).

Buffy was the first thing that came to my mind as well. The animation reminded me of Huntik for some reason, and yes, I do hope it has better animation in the finished product, but I'll probably end up passing on it. Teens who fight bad guys have gotten really overdone in the recent years, unless it does something to make it stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Some more info I found:

Based on the fantasy publications authored by Sophie Audouin-Mamikonian, the animated television series Tara Duncan hopes to fill any remaining void among local broadcasting needs for girls-skewed magic-based adventure tales. From a partnership between animation production companies Moonscoop (France) and DQ Entertainment (India), and broadcast identities M6 (France) and Disney (France), Tara Duncan is a 2D animated television program that positions a teenager as a familiarly busy, but graciously world-saving wizard-girl.

The Tara Duncan book series, first published around 2003, follows a young girl whom, akin to the origin story of other teen magic wielders, one day awakens to a destiny of mystery, suspense, magic, and drama.

Discovering that she has mystical powers makes life a little more difficult for Tara, whose daily teenage grind of being late for class and making/breaking friendships on a whim are suddenly of lesser priority when demons from another world feel the need to butt in.

I keep finding either Fall 2009 or 2010 as the release date, but the most reliable one said Fall 09. We'll see.

It's getting hard to say when this will be released.
Some say Spring 2010, some say Fall 2009, some say Fall 2010, etc.
Most reliable sources say Fall 2009 (in France, I assume). The video of the announcement of the series or something, and Toonbarn. (TB says "not too long from now" as a release date, and that post was in March of this year)

An American release is very likely and would be a really good idea to promote the English release of the books. I know I'll probably check them out.

Also, Disney seems to be involved with this. I don't know if this is good or bad.
I doubt this would fit the demographic Disney XD is aiming for, and most animation never lasts very long on Disney Channel (with the exceptions of only Kim Possible and Phineas and Ferb, to my knowledge.

Here's something else I found while Googling more info on this:

India?s DQ Entertainment and French studio Moonscoop announced today that they have partnered to produce a new 2D animated series titled Tara Duncan, which will have an estimated budget of 6.4 million euros and will begin production in June. M6 and Disney are the show?s broadcast partners.

The partnership between DQE and Moonscoop began a few years ago with the production of Casper?s Scare School and continued with The Fantastic Four, ToddWorld and the upcoming American Greetings series Twisted Whiskers.

?The functionality of our partnership with Moonscoop has been proven once again,? notes Tapaas Chakravarti, chairman and CEO of Hyderabad-based DQE Group. ?Together we will produce world-class animation for television productions as well as feature films. We are also jointly exploring producing Indian content in live action as well as animation to further extend our relationship with Moonscoop.?

?This deal is in logical progression of our ongoing relationship with DQE,? adds Nicolas Atlan, CEO of Moonscoop. ?We have successfully collaborated on Casper and the Fantastic Four TV series. We hope that Tara Duncan will be yet another successful partnership. Each of our companies brings something unique to this agreement which we think will ultimately benefit not only our companies, but our broadcast and licensing partners, as well.?

Harry Potter's French sister, eh? That sounds interesting.

They also supplied us with a small image of the main character and possibly other main characters.

That's about all I found. Unfortunately, "Tara Duncan" seems to be a common name, so I had to dig past those..
This looks pretty promising to me. Even if it does seem kind of like putting Juniper Lee, W.I.T.C.H., Kim Possible, and Harry Potter in a blender.

looks pretty interesting, hope CN picks this baby up for air by next year, after all the channel could use some light-hearted supernatural action! IMO that is.:D:evil:

Possibly. That seems like the best home for it here in the USA.

Moonscoop's dealt with CN before (Code Lyoko and Fantastic Four, possibly other shows), so it wouldn't be a surprise if CN got the American broadcast rights.

There's also apparently a 3D film coming out, made by Moonscoop and Disney.

I'm either finding Fall 2009 or Fall 2010. I find Fall 09 to be more likely, since it's apparently already been produced. Why hold off?

If you're looking for some already-produced examples, there's Code Lyoko, Oban Star-Racers (partially French), and Totally Spies.

...Alright, does anyone else have info? We're approaching fall 2009, when it's supposed to premiere in France, and I have heard nothing.

I don't know about that. Although Disney XD was originally billed as being "Boy Centric, Girl inclusive", it's female audience has since increased about 40%. This is also part of why Disney recently purchased Marvel; in order to get this cherished tween boy audience that the Mouse House has been craving so badly. Admittedly, my knowledge of Tara Duncan would isn't enough to fill a thimble, but keep in mind that having a female protagonist doesn't automatically mean "girl show". I can't imagine Disney adopting the attitude of "This show is too girly to air on DXD." when they air Pucca.

If you ask me, Disney needs to give up this pointless quest of trying to be gender exclusive and just concentrate on making/acquiring good shows that can be enjoyed by both genders equally.

Huh.

Apparently, the series is premiering sometime this month in France on M6.

I need to investigate this..

EDIT: Found nothing on M6's website, or the website for their kids block. I wish they'd just announce a premiere date already. :/
