Well... I rode 250 miles today in glorious sun... but my bike still looks crimson unless I am sitting on it. From a couple feet away the candy red is stunning...but from any distance it is a muddy purple.. :-(

I will live with it, of course...but if there ever is a next time.. its gotta be more red !!

this is south of Tillamook ( Cape Kiwanda?) and you can see the muddy purple
 
Our Malibu is like that. Everybody says its Black, but in the Sun up closer it is Blue.

I don't correct them anymore.

It's just one more reason to buy a different bike.

There will be a myriad of reasons, none of which by themselves will make a hoot in heck difference, but together.........

together it will be like many twigs bound, strong enough to support anything.

because repainting over good paint is both silly and a waste of good money that could go towards another bike.
 
amazing how much weight those woven twigs of rationale can hold up...LOL...and yes, one more thing that will eventually support my buying a new bike...."....and you know the paint job didnt really turn out right , honey"

I use the opposite argument for keeping the old xs

1 - paid for
2 - shaft drive, when shaft drive was new and fancy
3 - rear disc brake, not a lot of cruisers have that
4 - dual front disc, a bit of a pain when changing tires, but that doesn't happen often
5 - self canceling turn signals, amazed the s/c/m 50 doesn't have this
6 - electric starter, that's for lazy folks, KICK START. which leads to
7 - electronic ignition, also a pretty new thing at the time
8 - double overhead cams for the 4 valves / cylinder, also a new thing at the time.
9 - built like a tank.
10 - 3 cylinders, because Yamaha just had to be different.
