Tall gearing on Ducs

Hi kids

I've just bought my first Duc, (longtime Suz rider) a 2001 996, and I'd like to gear it down quite a bit, but a larger rear sprocket would run into the swingarm, and you can only go so small with the front sprocket.

Anyone know what my options are?

Thanks mucho

14/41 is a common swap. 15/36 I believe is the stock setup. As you stated I'm not sure what will fit on the rear without it turning into a milling machine. 42-43?

+1. You can't/shouldn't go lower than a 14 on the front.

and up 3,4,5 at the back should be more than enough unless you are considering stunting

Of course fuel consumption takes a hit but who other than commuters worry about that. It's a sports bike after all.

I just switched from 14/36 with a 525 chain to 14/40 with a 520 on my 996 and it is now outrageous! Highly recommended...

Ooh sorry, guess I have to turn email notfication on somewhere.

Thanks for the help guys! You're helping me enjoy my new toy.

I didn't think 5 up would fit on the back, that plus 1 down in the front should give me plenty of room for adjustment, xlnt.

Any brands you guys recommend?

I do like it very low and duc's seem to start pretty high... I've heard that's to help with emissions? Noise as well as air pollution?

Haha! Awesome, you'll find that it pulls better at lower revs too. And it's great having more than 1 choice of what gear to be in.
