Just a preface: This is NOT a thread for you to spew anti-religious bigotry in. If you're coming in here to do just that intentionally, I will not hesitate to contact a mod. Do NOT turn this into a religious discussion thread and DO NOT start flame wars. Basically, if you don't have anything nice to say (unless you've seen the movie and actually have an informed opinion), DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL.

Obligatory disclaimer out of the way...

So, after 6 years, there's another new 'VeggieTales' movie out. During the time, Big Idea fell into bankruptcy and was bought out by Classic Media. A shift in power changed and Phil Vischer -one of the co-creators- is no longer with the company, though he still does stuff every now and then auxillarly.

And sad to say... the quality of the VeggieTales series post-Jonah has suffered. Really suffered. I myself have not been impressed with any of the offerings, 'Duke and the Great Pie War' aside. When i saw 'The Wizard of Ha's', it became quite clear to me that Big Idea had really reached the bottom of the barrel for ideas.

However, part of me is hoping against hope that this movie will somehow have a little bit of that 'spark' from the early days. Then again, everything I've seen shows me otherwise, but looks can be deceiving. And I can't say I'm fond of the Pirates anymore: they were funny as a one-off joke and really, we DID have a Pirates movie 6 years ago (they did, after all, take up about 55% of screen time in 'Jonah')...

But yeah, I'll probably be going to this later tonight and hoping for the best. Mostly out of nostalgia, but the rose-tinted glasses will be taken off beforehand.

Well, it worked last time; as you may have already heard, they were generally agreed to be hilarious in Jonah.

Unfortunately, yeah, pretty much everything since Jonah has been missing that certain something, so my hopes aren't that high.

There clearly weren't a series of successful Pirate films they aren't Parodying/Cashing in off of.

How successful was the first film? Seems like it doesn't warrent another big screen outing outside of one of those 10am saturday morning "Kid Cinema" deals.

I can enjoy the Veggies on occassion, but I honestly think that the Penguin show they created is a little more entertaining.

VeggieTales were meant to be direct-to-video/DVD. And it was always supposed to be. I can deal with the television show on Qubio, but these big-screen movies are going to fail until they hit DVD.

In case you're being sarcastic, the original Pirates Who Don't Do Anything silly song was created a while before the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

I really want to see this with my family, I grew up on Veggietales.

Indeed they were... but that doesn't mean they can't parody the films. It looks like they are, roughly from the trailer.

Besides, with Pirate films being successful, it seemed like a sure fire thing.

This series has interested me but it always seemed to skew way too young for me to try watching it. Like, Backyardigans young. Is that why no one in this thread has actually seen this most recent one? If you have, what is the message and does it have at least enough funny jokes that my mind won't melt if I ever find myself babysitting?

Hey, and I've always wondered, why is it called Veggie Tales when one of the main characters is a tomato? Tomatos are fruit. It should be called Fruits and Veggie Tales.

I went to see it today with my girlfriend. It was pretty good, but a little short. We missed about the first 5 minutes or so, but overall it's a pretty good film. It's kind of taken on the Golden Age Looney Tunes flavor in that there are lots of easy jokes for the kids, and more complex jokes thrown in for the adults who either got dragged there, or for the ones who went voluntarily.

I'd give it a 6.5-7 out of 10. While I do like that they still have good morals in it, I really miss the Biblical references. I'm probably one of a very small crowd that owns VeggieTales videos, and I don't have any kids....yet.
