So anyone watching this? I'm sure it's going to be edited badly to fit in it's time slot but it's always nice to see good ol' Chuck on broadcast TV. Charlie Brown's All-Stars is airing afterwards, and that one hasn't aired in prime time in decades.

Eh, as far as the '70s holiday specials go, I'd place the Valentines, Thanksgiving and even the Arbor Day specials far above this one. It's not bad at all, but it's meandering and doesn't really have a strong plot. And Charlie Brown is barely in it but gets the short end of the stick at the end either way.

Charlie Brown's All-Stars is an underrated classic though.

I am oddly reminded of one of the "Most Offensive" Charlie Brown videos on Youtube. I can't get that dialogue out of my head.

They've been cutting out that last scene for quite a while I believe. That's why I'm not watching either special. I've got them both on DVD anyway.

Yet I think they cut even more this time, because All-Stars began at 8:28.

Oh well, I think I prefer seeing more of All-Stars. That was made in between Christmas and Great Pumpkin, and I've always wanted to see it. It's interesting, though, how much material in it was cribbed verbatim from strips. Later specials get knocked for overdoing that, but there was a lot of it here too.

The problem I Have with the later specials is that there is no real plot. They are just animated strips merged together...and most don't even get a laugh. I don't think I've ever seen the second special, so it'll be interesting to see how much better or worse it is if it has some kind of story attached to it.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen the easter special either....

Darn. I forgot about this airing last night. At least the Easter special is one of the few Peanuts specials that I have on video. Too bad that I missed All-Stars since I don't think I've seen that in years.

Edits/omissions in the Charlie Brown's All Stars episode:
* The first scene where Linus talks about baseball statistics.
* Lucy catches a ball while talking to Frieda about a party dress.
* Charlie Brown having the ball in his glove but then drops out.
* The Linus/Sally/Snoopy pool sequence where Snoopy does a surfboard routine.

If you notice a film print of "Charlie Brown's All Stars" w/o/c on the trading circuit, you'll notice rare sponsor tags for Coca-Cola and Dolly Madison not seen in later airings.

I always feel sad for Charlie Brown when he doesn't get an egg from the Easter Beagle. Anyways can someone tell me in what order the specials take place, like is Easter and Valentine's Day before Halloween and Christmas or are they after?

A Charlie Brown Christmas was first, airing in 1965.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown was second, airing in 1966.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving aired in 1973, then It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown, in 1974, then Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown in 1975.

I don't think there's any specific chronology to the Peanuts specials. Given that they were all made years apart, I doubt that the producers had any such thing in mind when they were making them. They just take place when they take place.

Of course, It's the Easter Beagle does have a reference to It's the Great Pumpkin, which does suggest that the Easter special takes place after the Halloween special.

I tend to stop looking at Peanuts for some time. I was getting a bit sick of Charlie Brown being God's punching bag. Charles Shultz must have something against his own creation. You would have think this kind of stuff would have driven a person to suicide. I saw this special and wasn't too thrilled about it. There were only a few times he was giving a break.
