Allright I am thinking about getting a Duc but I have some questions. I have about 8 years riding exp but have never been on a Duc. I currently own a Sportster but have also had an R6. Alot of the guys on the Harley forums have nothing but good things to say about Ducs. My primary reasons for wanting one are that I want a sportier bike, another bike and something that doesn't come from Japan as everyone seems to have one of those. I can't decide on the Monster or an 848 but I'll ride both and see. So on with the questions.
1. Are they reliable?
2. What are the service intervals and how much do they cost?
3. Why does everyone talk about valve adjustments? Every time I do a search on Duc's I get talk about the valves.
4. Can you actually work on them?
5. Is there any must do mods or do they come screaming fast from the factory?
6. How does it feel do have a rare bike? You know Ducati's are not sitting on every corner.

1. yes 2.recommend 5000k oil changes, likely do that yourself, with say every 10 000k to dealer. 3.valve adjustment /check is more likely every 20 000k, sooner if your very hard on your gear.not really an economical excersize to do yourself due to the variety/sizes of shims you would need to have at your disposal. 4.how handy are you ?, if not much, leave it alone. 5. anything will feel screaming faster than your harley, but handling and braking is likely to make you smile !!.learn to ride it,than start openning your wallet as you see fit. 6. rare ? arround here everyone, except brooksy has one.. buy it because you want it !!! ,not because of the crowd.its more an individual passion, than a dick thing.yes it is likely more expensive to maintain than a harley, but you are light years ahead in technology..hj

Well I didn't buy the HD for speed but I have been on many many a fast bike. I like the idea of a Duc being somewhat unique so I'll stick with that as one of my reasons.
