Taking the Road Test without Drivers Ed?

My friend recently told me that he took the road test without taking drivers ed and passed. He said that he trained with his dad for only 6 hrs the day before. Now is this recommended? My parents r bein jerks and are saying ill fail if i dont take drivers ed, but i have quite a few friends who are poor and couldn't afford drivers ed and got their license anyways.

So what do you think guys?
