I think it's just parallel. You have to do it but if you mess up, they usually let you do it again. You also have to back up a hundred feet (or maybe a little more) don't forget to turn around and do it.
check mirrors ofter, and when merging, look out the window over your shoulder, for some reason they don't want you to rely on your mirrors for that.
MAKE SURE you stop completely at stop signs and i counted to 3 mississippi befor i went.
