Taking the bike with me

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this - feel free to move it if there is a more appropriate location!

I'm wondering if any C50 owners carry their rides with them behind an RV? We have a 36 foot Class A and would like to take our ride along with us - I'm looking for suggestions as to whether the preferred method by the more experienced people here is a rack on the back of the RV or a trailer behind the RV?

Thanks everyone!

I don't have a big rv but I have trailered my bike a few times. I think you will have a problem finding a mount heavy duty enough for a C50 that is not a trailer. Remember it is a 600 plus pound bike with fluids and accessories.

That said, they are pretty easy on a trailer. I have one of the cheap harbor freight fold up trailers and it does fine hauling my c50. It depends a lot on how far and how fast you want to go. I have taken my bike on 200mile trips twice with no problem at regular freeway speed.

Either that or have a custom platform made up and mounted to the frame. It'd be nice to drive your bike on the back of the RV, crossways, and keep the total length of your vehicle to a minimum.

Seems like 600+ pounds is a lot to hang way out on the back there for overall balance on an RV..? Oh well...we dont have an RV but.....my huband and I tow two bikes behind a pickup and travel a lot with a Kendon trailer. You can find them easily in a websearch. They make a single bike version very similar. It is very well made, sits very low, rides very stable, has well thought out tie downs and is easy loading. You can take the rails off and just use it for utility too. Best of all it folds and rolls vertical in our garage. Bikes get darn dirty tho...GRIN Maybe next time it is a covered trailer for us.

good luck

Thanks for the replies everyone - my feeling is that a trailer would be the way to go - it's a lot cheaper than a decent lift/platform and could be used for other things around the house also.

As an RV'r, I have a few thoughts. One, will adding a monster lift on the back of a class A void your warranty? Gas or diesel pusher? Will it put you over any of your weight ratings? Don't forget GAWR (Axle weight rating). Those numbers usually don't jive with GCWR. If a trailer is the way to go, stay away from the cheap ones with small wheels. That makes for INCREDIBLY high rpm's on the wheels/bearings and RV's usually are used for long runs, which could cause problems for the trailer and bike. Just a thought. Good luck in your decision.
