Taking care of a lighter for camping?

I got a lighter to take on a camping trip next week. Is there anything I need to be careful about like while it is in my backpack? Also there is a switch on it with a plus side and a minus side, what is it for?
 
Plus side makes the flame larger. Just put the lighter with you cooking gear and it should be fine. I keep mine with a few fire starters in my first aid kit. My stove has a self starting ignition system.

The + and - control the size of the flame of the lighter. No dont worry about anything put it with the stove or with the pots so you have it when youre ready to light the stove or fire
